Octavia vRS - Running cold after CTS change

Featured Replies

Cheers, would the CTS be responsible or thermostat as well you think?

Your thermostat is up the duff

Cheers dude. Any thermostat do or best go with genuine you reckon?

Genuine or find a Gates one

Just want to clarify the 17704 is p1296 "powertrain cooling malfunction". The common causes are coolant temperature sensor and thermostat. This is not always the cause though.

Mine has had this persistent error for a while and changing the cts and thermostat yields no results. I have now obtained an ecu to test with so I'm suspecting either a faulty ecu from water ingress OR a faulty oil temperature sensor. Apparently the 1.8t is prone to blocking the crankcase breather valve too. These are going to be investigated once my ecu lands.

I have other threads which cover my issues. All help is appreciated.
