Is it just me?

Featured Replies

Hi Briskodians.

Just a quickie, am i the only Fabia VRS owner who's engine is taking ages to reach operating temperature on these cold winter days?

I mean, the trusty old pdi engine has always sounded a little rough in the morning but that usually goes away. At the moment though i'm finding that, even on long journey's, it still sounds rough when the outside temperature is below freezing.

Also the temp gauge drops all the way down after the car has been stationary for only a short time. Feels like the engine is NOT really getting warm - or keeping warm for that matter.

Is it just me or anybody else finding this?

It's a characteristic of diesel engines. They're more thermally-efficient than petrol engines, hence take longer to warm up.

Diesels take an age to warm up compared to petrol engines.

Sounds rough all the time

In the winter, if I stand in traffic after a 15 minute run, my temp gauge actually goes down!

How would i know how long to give the engine to thoroughly warm up? Don't like to work a cold engine too hard.

Get an oil temp guage :D Ironically, unless you work a cold diesel engine it will never warm up!

Chris

I just wait until the temp needle is half way.

Same here - don't trash it too hard until the water temperature is 'stable'. That said, I found the only way to warm it up at the moment is to ensure the turbo has spun up, otherwise it will never warm up ;)
