J H M BUTT & CO LTD in England, and that's a help. Test drove a 1999 Passat GLX and 2001 Jetta GLS this weekend as a potential "subject". How important is a rain-sensitive windshield in the big scheme of things anyway? I appreciate and will consider all of these good suggestions as I pursue the "Skoda USA." project.

Charles,

It may be possible to have a car imported and converted to meet DOT and EPA requirements by a Registered Importer.

Here's an example (I found it on the NHTSA website) http://www.sunshine-car-import.com

It looks like it might be expensive, though - they quote $6000 to convert a 1992-1996 S-class Mercedes; there's also the shipping cost and the bond (1.5 times the value of the vehicle).

Thanks, Mike. So you see, by converting a used VW Jetta myself, I save $$$$. My budget is 1 used Jetta + 10 - 16 Skoda parts (see above) = The Only Skoda Octavia is the U S of A! But I could use help in finding Skoda centre caps - a 2001 Jetta has the larger, small plate sized ones. Also, how will I get the Skoda emblems for the front, back, and steering wheel???

Please PM me your address and then expect some mail (as in the snail variety rather than the electronic stuff) :D

Gentlemen: I have purchased my 'Skoda' - the very first one in North America!!

It used to be a silver 2000 VW Jetta GLS, and now, as Phase II of the Skoda USA Project, it just needs a few items - your help and advice is very much needed, because I am in the US and it makes shopping difficult.

I must replace the large VW emblem on the trunk (or 'boot' for you!) with a Skoda emblem, I also need the word "OCTAVIA". I am especially looking for four (4) Skoda wheel inserts, lug nut covers, the ones the size of a small plate. The trickiest part will be the emblem on the steering wheel because I don't want to buy a whole new wheel. Likewise for the stereo ('Symphony') I only want to replace the small flap/door over the tape deck that currently says 'Volkswagen'.

I am trying to order floor mats, first aid kit, owner's manual and cover, etc.

Briskodian has sent me some very helpful Skoda information.

All suggestions, contacts and advice are most welcome. This historic first US Skoda will be ready by the New Year if I can get these parts. Thanks!

Having read throught this thread, the rules and regulations, for the good ole US of A citizens, are horrendous.

Where is " Freedom of choice " CKnight doesnt appear to have one in this case. :(

he cannot even choose the car HE wants to drive.

Oh well ! Maybe he could emigrate to Europe ( preferably U.K ) , where we do appear to have that privelage.

I know this is probably a next to impossible task, but is it all possible to import a new or fairly new skoda octavia TDI into the United States. I just returned from the European continent two weeks ago. While there I rented a 2008 Skoda Octavia TDI wagon. I drove it from Berlin to Slovenia and back. I didn't want return it to the rental agency. The closest thing I can get in the States is a Passat TDI. But it is very expensive and finding one in a manual transmission very difficult. Any advice on this subject is greatly appreciated.

Are Skodas sold in Canada? I seem to remember seeing posts from Canadians here, but maybe they relocated to Skoda-friendly jurisdictions?

No - not sold in Canada or Mexico, just checked here : ?koda Auto - Central America

This thread's nearly old enough to vote! Interestingly, by scouring the international Skoda site, I find that you can still buy what looks like a Mk 1 Octy RS on the continent.
