What is smart gate and mirror link?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just trying to finalise my new car configuration and I've come across Smartgate and also Mirror Link (the latter also referred to as Smart Link).

As I understand it,

Smartgate allows me to download some apps and the phone communicates via WIFI with car about fuel consumption, etc.

quoted at 158EUR

Smart link (previously called Mirror link) allows me to connect phone and use apps on phone via satnav screen.  E.g Sygic

quoted at 102EUR

Please could anyone correct me if I'm wrong or would be able to provide further insight?

Has anyone got either/both of these and are they any good?  Do they work with an iPhone?  The dealer seems to not know exactly what either of them are and whether or not they work on any phone.

Cheers

Get smartlink don't get Smartgate. (I have both) smartlink will allow you to do cool things with your iPhone.

Do you not use the smart gate?  It seems to just feed information from the car to the iPhone regarding fuel consumption, etc.  On skoda.co.uk it says this can be added later by purchasing a unit from the dealer, whereas smart link has to be ordered from the factory

For me both systems don't work that well.. Smartgate once connected gives you some information but I have had trouble getting it to work and the data is not that useful anyway.

Smartlink is great with Android auto. And apple car play support. I wouldn't have a car without it bit I have been disappointed with the reliability of the connection to my android phone. (I think it's more reliable with Apple car play)

The other thing is you can't use both at the same time so if you get both you won't be using the other option.
