Petrol 56 Octavia vrs RPM raising and dropping whilst idle/stationary

Recommended Posts

Morning experts.  My 2006 Petrol Octavia developed a bizarre issue last weekend wherein I noticed when stopped at some lights in neutral  the cars rpm started to rise sometimes to 1500 then would fall back to abot 800, then raise again and drop, shortly after ata another stop I noticed the rpm go above 2000 before then falling back.  Its always had a lumpy ide but has always sat solidly at 800, anybody come across this before?  Many thanks gang!!

Hi there,

Sounds like it could be the PCV valve, similar symptoms to mind ( all be it a different engine)

Pull the dipstick out whilst its running and see if there is a massive suck of air going through the dipstick hole, if there is then its probably the PCV.

Dan

These are exactly the symptoms I had which stopped me going on track at Castle Combe. Turned out to be a faulty MAF, caused by a disintegrated filter. My own stupid fault for not checking it enough.
