Dip stick keeps popping out

Featured Replies

Can anyone help?

sounds like the ccv ?  valve needs replacing   do a search there must be a test procedure somewhere

Build up of crankcase pressure is causing the problem.

Possible causes are...

  1.  You've moved house and haven't given the engine time to reacclimatise to the change in altitude. High pressure air is still in the crankcase and is causing the dipstick to blow out.
  2.  The "O-ring Pixies" have been under the bonnet and stolen the o-ring from the dip stick where it goes into the holder, and it's too loose to stay in.
  3.  Squirrels. They do all sorts of bad stuff.
  4. The EGR valve is loose and boost pressure is squeezing past the seal where it should be held tightly. The draught is blowing the dipstick about and causing it to lift.

But probably crank case pressure, as said.

Is this a petrol or a diesel engine btw?

Possible dipstick tube is split and allow's the dipstick to vibrate/ work itself out ?

Should be a really tight fit when the dipstick is pressed firmly into the dipstick tube..

Is the crankcase breather tube blocked.

Breather was blocked. Thanks guys.

Worth maybe doing the elephant mod / breather mod then? Has it got blocked with it being connected as intended to EGR as that woudl make sense

Like my recent thread about the venting though, once you have it vented, you defiinitely would know when its NOT venting I can assure you !

Hence if mine stopped venting steam etc from the pipe I'd be like, is there something wrong ? Also far better to stop the cars intake from getting clogged up. Worth a look.

I did elephant mod but I also had an oil leak so I popped the pipe in a bottle and it obviously didn't like it haha.
