Canton or 19" alloys

Featured Replies

Hopefully I will be putting in my order very, very soon for a SE-L combi (190ps DSG 4x4) and I'm just debating on whether to go for the Canton upgrade (£600) or 19" Sirius alloys (£650)....

Current SE-L spec plus the following option's:

1) Corrida red (£175)

2) Black full leather interior (no cost option)

3) Heated rear seats (£200)

4) Heated windscreen (£300)

5) Heated washer jets (£50)

6) DSG paddles on steering wheel (£95)

7) LED interior lighting (£195)

8) Parking sensors front/rear (£350)

9) Modus 18" alloys (no cost option)

10) Tow bar (£765)

11) Textile mats (£80)

12) Colour maxi dot (£85)

13) Rear seat releases from boot (£90)

14) Spare wheel (£100)

I'm left with the decision on whether to add the 19" alloys or add Canton...

Your thoughts on either are very welcome.

Steve.

Well personally I prefer the Modus so I would go with the Canton.... Actually no. Please go with the 19' wheels ;-)

Haha, I can't wait to see your red combi with the modus rims... I think your car will help me make my mind up!!! :)

Get both. Treat yourself

Is this an outright purchase or lease?

Purchase - this will be a keeper, which is why I'm leaning towards the canton system over the bigger alloys... Wheels can be changed easily enough in the future.

Steve

You replied just as I was about to type the same thing. Wheels can be changed anytime, but the Canton not so easily, especially with the Superb III where much of the electronics now has "component protection".

I actually cancelled my Sirius Wheels (went for Pegasus) and removed the £80 floor mats (ordered a prestige set which have arrived and look great from Super Skoda for £44)...

Canton for me was a must as like you say it can't be upgraded later like Alloys can and the acoustic noise cancelling is a great addition to refinement.

Btw, in place of the Sirius, I added £100 more and ordered the Adaptive Dampers (ACC) for £750. Again, something that can't be retrofitted but hopefully will have a fantastic impact on ride quality and diversity.

I personally am not a fan of the Sirius wheels... but do like the other 19’s (available on the L&K and as accessories) so for that reason I would go for the Canton, wear the 18” tyres out, then fit winter tyres on the 18’s and then upgrade the wheels then.

I'd I'd go for the canton

It sounds great in my L&K

+1 on this from me

Cheers folks, thank you for our input!!

I was always 70/30 in favour of the Canton system, but this has helped make my mind up.

I will have a listen to the system next time I'm at the dealer as their L&K demo was out when I was down there last.

Thanks again!

Steve :)

Hi

Personally no contest Canton every time...

I agree - personally I prefer 17" wheels - cheaper tyres and a better (to my tastes!) ride. I admit that 19" have a nice look to them, though....

I'm going for Canton - and that's even on a 2 year lease!

Another vote for Canton here. Agree with comments above on changing wheels in the future. The DCC would be nice to try and squeeze in if you could and I'd nearly be tempted to have this even over the Canton. It's your choice at the end of the day though as you will have to live with the car for the years to come

Are you are it's not worth having an l&k with that options list?

I have a 18month old and a 3 year old....as well as an English springer so cream leather would be out of the question.... And I am not a fan of the brown leather...

If they did a black leather option I would have it in a heart beat!

I too wanted black leather and was unsure about the brown. But having had it a week I am more than happy with it. Alot darker than most of the pictures I saw prior to ordering and since.

We have the brown leather in a L&K FL Yeti and I agree it is certainly liveable... for me the two tone brown and black dash was a step to far though, so I have ordered beige leather.

My se l exec order came to the same cost as the equivalent l&k order taking dealers discount and the far smaller list of options needed to match into account. I went l&k because there were good extras e.g. DCC, KESSY, canton, and you get no trade in value for a long list of options but you will get value from being the next trim level up. Decided we'd take a punt on brown and see how it goes.

2,4,7,8,11,12 are included in the l&k from your list, plus canton, that's about £1,800 of included options.

So with you engine choice for about another £1,800 you'll get all the l&k kit and better resale value. Not suggesting you should, but it's worth running the figures...

+1 you will find the leather is really very resilient to children and pets I accidentally spilt a full cup of Starbucks drinking chocolate over my rear dark brown leather seats whilst handing it to my grandson. No damage to either child or seats other than my pride and the time it took me to clean up. If concerned like me you could try the protection that comes with the paint albeit an added cost. You are more likely to get a dealer discount (and possibly shorter lead-time) choosing specified model rather than having loads of extra options added which will almost certainly mean a factory order.....hope this helps?

I had the option of a 150 l&k hatch but opted for the 150 DSG SE-L estate as I really don't like the brown interior.

I generally listen to music but I'm no audiophile so the stock system is adequate for me, hence I went for 19 inch alloys instead.
