13 Plate Monte Carlo - Emissions scandal & pulls?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've just purchased a Monte Carlo 1.6TDI from a skoda main dealer. The day after picking it up it had to go back for new brake discs and tyres due to damage - but I also mentioned that it pulls etc the left. It has ha fits alignment checked and basically the dealer said that they tend to slightly pull to the left... Probably now not helped they only replaced one of the two damaged front tyres (sidewall damage) - normal for monte Carlos?

Secondly I just found out my engine is one of those affected by the current scandal. While taking it in when the recall comes doesn't bother me, any changes to performance figures or mpg etc does... Should I be worried?

Cheers :)

In regards to the pull to the left, there are a few threads on the forum, just have a quick search round and see what comes up. As for the emissions, if they alter your car and it is no longer what you bought then that will be their problem and you should get compensated for that, I don't know how but it shouldn't be anything to be worried about. Not for at least a year before they start pulling them in anyway.

Mine was ever so slightly pulling left, recently got some new front tyres and tracked and it's fine!

As for the emissions, I received my letter from Skoda today so will just wait for the recall, they can't change the overall power output so nothing to worry about tbh

Yes pulls to the left , my son is getting his done on a high tech machine and yes you will need new injectors fix the ecu and maybe exhaust upgrade

Were the dunlop tyres fitted to new fabia`s causing this pull to the left? And dealers were swapping for pirellies under the direction of skoda uk.

No the Dunlop Sport Maxx 205/40 R17 were not causing it.

But these Directional Tyres did clearly show it as being there.

Nor did the Continental Tyres that were OEM fitments that could show the same Pulling to the left might happen..

Fitting the Pirelli Zero Nero 205/40 R17 helped hide it but did not actually fix the poor alignment that the Right Hand Drive cars bound for the UK could suffer from.

Compare the Dunlops in 205/40 R 17 next to the Pirelli Zero Nero in the same size.

The Dunlops have more Tread on the road, and even though XL tyres a soft sidewall.

The Pirelli Zero Nero are slightly taller sidewalls, very hard, and a bit skittery.

(I have them on the rear of my vRS right now.)

So really they are not doing the Mechanical Fix and Correct Alignment,

Skoda are doing as VW,Seat and Audi did,

A sticking plaster.

Proper Trained and Qualified Suspension and Steering Technicians that can use the Equipment to Check & then Align a cars geometry will fix it properly.

Not just change a Brand of Tyre, and yet never say,

Dunlop / Continental tyres were poorly made or made customers cars unsafe.

That would be one dishonest Corporation making accusations against their supplier.

Skoda & VW kept on fitting Dunlop Sport Maxx in 205/40 R 17 from 2011 - 2014,

Why if it was tyres that were to blame.?
