Leaking rear window wash pipe (the ol' water in boot issue)

Featured Replies

After driving through heavy rain, I noticed that my Fabia had wet rear seats.

Upon further investigation I found out that the seats got wet from the boot lining which was wet too, mostly on the left side, plus a lot of water in the spare tire well.

I gave it some time for the seats to dry and I decided to test the rear window washing system.

After driving around and washing the rear window regularly I found out water in the spare tire well again and a the left back seat was very wet, so I think it must be the pipe that feeds water to the window washing system, plus a visible wet spot on the left side of the boot trim (the green dot in the picture).

How can I remove the left side boot trim so I can check / fix the pipe (or hose, whatever it is). I'm pretty sure there's a faulty joint in there and that causes problems.

Any DIY guides would be appreciated.

Not sure I can help you with a Fabia boot, but the trim comes off fairly easily on an Octy. A combination of screws and brute force, if I remember correctly.

When you get in behind the left-side panel, make sure you wire the two parts of the hose really firmly together (wind copper wire round the joint really tightly). It worked on the Memsahib's mk1 Octy, still working effectively now that my daughter has the car.

After reading this I think I may have the same problem

Is this wear and tear or a warranty fix?

Mine is out of warranty (2008 model, 2nd owner).

From what I know it's a wear and tear, common with most hatchbacks. (I have similar issues on VWs, Hondas, Seats, Priuses).
