Replacing the passenger side door handle - arm rest

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My passenger side door handle cover is always sliding out from it's place. It's an old car, 15 years old so I'm going to replace that. Is it hard to get it out? Will I have to unmount the door card ?

Later edit: I'm talking about the armrest, items 3 and 5 from the picture bellow.

Is it just the cover (5) that slides off?

The clips are brittle and easy to break if you're taking the door car off.

I replaced mine for about £5.

Is your car left or right hand drive?

It is an lhd carand yes, just the cover is sliding. I was thinking that due to temp changes that plastic got soften and I should replace the armrest.

It's probably the front part that houses the electric window switch that is broken.

The larger part (5) simply slides in place, and the window switch in front of that is the part that clips in place and stops it sliding.

My Fabia had exactly the same problem.

Edit: These videos show how it comes apart:

Item no 5 is always sliding out of it's place and I didn't notice any broken clips. I'll post a few pics later. The one holding the window button is rock solid.

Same problem here.  Started after I sealed the carrier a year or two ago, so I probably damaged some plastic clippiness while disassembling.

Would it be enough to replace only item 5 ?

I haven't looked at it closely, but I have a feeling that the damage on mine is to the main part of the handle, which is part of the door card, I think.

im sure you can replace all parts of the arm rest on the door card, the front window switch plastic, the grab hanble bit that slides and the thicker bottom part can all be bought seperatley from the dealers \ TPS

Anyone got part number for the bit that attachs to the doorcard? Mines definitely broken

Morning guys! Item 3 from the picture above is not part of the door card, but it requires unmounting it. I checked yesterday. I'll add it on my 'to do' list.

Later edit: I don't want to be rude, but I think my passengers riding in front are a bit harsh. I just noticed that the passenger side electric window is taking a couple of seconds longer to go up than than the one from the drivers side. Arrghh !! It's not skeet shooting, it's just a door for crying out loud.  :finger:

My window is like this...but as a bonus mine also opens fully when you try and close it.

I dont have many passengers so thinking its prob the regulator

This means the window is rubbing on the seals. You might need to clean them or check where is rubbing.
