Alloy wheel marks

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Just a quick one, I've had some wheels shipped and in delivery they have been marked. They are a matt type finish and it looks like oily marks (see pictures)

I've tried cleaning one with an alloy wheel cleaner and car wash soap, but either has done anything to remove the marks.

Any ideas?

Obviously I've contacted the seller about this and they want to see pictures before they will comment, but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Some light polish and a light swipe with an applicator pad and buff off

That should do it, if its not damaged paint

GT85 ( or wd40 ) on kitchen roll is best for oily marks , non abrasive too

Cheers Chris, I'll have a go at the weekend as will not have time this evening.

Hopefully it's not paint damage, all 4 have the same marks.

You should have shares in that stuff Alan!!

You are not happy with them are you?

Send pictures as requested by seller, replace/ refund situation to me.

You don't buy something new and then compensate by trying to improve appearance.

You could be blamed for doing the damage yourself if you go and try to improve the defects..

I'll give that a go first maybe?

Also when I washed them they seem to be protected/cover by something as the water really beaded off well. In fact the water from the hose pipe was almost like it didn't want to cover the wheel.

you are 100% right.......I guess I've waited 3 weeks for them and didn't want to wait another 3 weeks if it was just a simple oily stain.

Thanks :)

If its oil it will come straight off with Gt85, if not id send back

I would tend to agree with Alan - test a small area with non-abrasive cleaner perhaps;

otherwise I would be looking to return the item really.

I'm awaiting the response.

Here are a few more pictures of the wheels.

So what did you use in the end?

  • Author

WD40.....seemed to work on one of the spokes. But I'm awaiting a response from the company before I do anymore.

Awaiting on My tyre.co.uk to get a response from the courier.

Not exactly holding my breath on a good outcome. Still if WD40 solves it then it's not as bad!

Probably transport tape..WD40 will be fine

Personally if it is, I would use some AS Tardis to remove it

I don't like these WD and GT 85 sprays..Far too oily......but that's just my choice

Looked at them tonight and the mark came back after.

So I tried some sticky stuff remover and it's gone again.

I will see what that alloy is like tomorrow .

Just to update and thank all for the suggestions.

Sticky stuff remover worked a treat taking off the transport marks, and the company refunded £40 to me.

Not a bad outcome really.

Will post pictures this weekend once fitted into the car.

Thanks for the update

Good result

Well done MyTyres

Great result overall - really pleased to hear this.

Hopefully you have the "new" wheels all sealed up and protected for winter....

Cheers, I'm happy with the outcome, excellent customer service IMHO.

Yes they will be sealed before put on with poor boys alloy wheel sealant and maybe some 476 if I'm feeling daring enough ;)

I spoke to soon about my Tyres.

Mostly my fault as I never noticed it but I've got 3 tyres doing in one direction and 1 in the other (these are direction wheels).

Past the 30 days so I'm not sure what I can do about it. Any suggestions?

(I've currently done over 1000 miles on an incorrect tyre - which has made me feel like c**p)

Just fire off an eMail to MyTyres after the New Year and ask them what to do

Perhaps they will offer you more compensation

Its not your fault...I doubt there will be much damage done to the tyre TBH.

If any doubt..pop down to your local fitter and ask them to inspect them

Good luck
