Suspect Front Passenger Tyre?

Featured Replies

This maybe the simplest diagnosis possible - but I'm just after some advice.

Had a friend at work admiring the new purchase, and he noticed that the front passenger side wheel toes out a little at the bottom..

Upon closer inspection - it seems the outer part of the tyre has been wearing rather quickly.. i didn't notice in when purchasing - but 550 miles later and I need a new tyre!

What's likely to be causing the camber? Ball joint?

Oddly enough - it flew through an MOT last Thursday with zero advisories; which is a cause of concern.

No noisy suspension or any noises whatsoever when driving - in fact it's rather pleasant. Does want to pull towards the passenger side, and it gets worse with a passenger in there.

Just figured it was the tracking till I noticed the camber!

Cheers folks.

get it on a wheel alignment rig when you get the tyre(s) replaced. Hopefully nothing more than alignment and/or console bushes but wearing the edge off one tyre in 500 miles screams to me of a kerb slap and subsequent distortion of bits...

Yep.. gonna have a proper look tomorrow morning.

My concern was that - if the bottom of the wheel is out further than the top. Would this not cause the inside edge to wear - not the outside edge?

This is what got me confused?

Drivers side tire is brand new - only advisory on MOT was offside close to legal limit. I'm wondering whether they've done a tyre swap?

It's not illegal yet - but it's not far off..

Before purchasing the car, I read a lot about the console bushes being a common problem. Don't suppose anyone can point me in the direction of upgrades to these?

Is it worth upgrading certain suspension parts whilst sorting the bushes?

I've only ever changed breaks and done my own oil changes.. but I've a friend whose willing to spend time with me teaching me how to do more - and I'm keen to get to grips with being able to tinker with my own motor :-)

If the front wheels are effectively pointing left you will get wear on the outer edge of the NSF and inner edge of the OSF.  I had this on my Octavia.  As a bonus the rear wheels were pointing right, so the whole car was trying to turn left.  A 4 wheel alignment made a massive difference.

As above,get alignment checked.

The lads at kwik fit in Oswestry are good with the Hunter system they have there, you get a print out of before and after figures.

Cracking chaps!

Well I've had the wheels off this morning and there doesn't seem to be any play in the ball joint.. all seems fine.

I had to mount a kerb to get out of the way of a copper last week - but mounted on the drivers side and was extremely cautious.. Maybe I've knocked it on the way back down?

Was gonna head to Shrewsbury - didn't realise there was a Kwik fit in Oswestry - cheers coskev!

Yeah they are good lads in kwik fit in Oswestry :)

Cracking job!

Seems to be a choice between Continental premium contact 2 OR Pirelli P Zero Nero GT.

Either of them good choices? You local to Oswestry coskev?

Of the 2, I'd suggest the Contis will last longer but you'll get a little more grip out of the Pirellis.

At the moment I run Bridgestone Turanza ER300s.

Yeah, live in Oswestry and work in Shrewsbury :)

Ah cracking stuff.. not a bad town really! :)

Struggling to make a choice on tyre now that they've added the confusion of all these ratings - it used to be easier when it was just price involved! Lol.

See such mixed reviews for each tyre.. I think the Conti's are worth a pop this time as they're what's on the rear!

See a lot of Uniroyal recommendations through searching, can only find these via mytyres.co.uk - they as decent as the Conti's?
