flywheel going? VRs 175bhp

Featured Replies

Just bought a Fabia VRS SE 2007.

It's have a revo map 175Bhp

Suddenly getting knocking through the clutch pedal, my mechanic mate had a drive said it's defo the fly wheel.

Quoted £600 off an old family friends garage to get one and replace it.

Now, that's probably a cheap or standard part, so it will just brake soon after being mapped still?

I've read here stage 1 remaps go well with a sachs clutch kit and fly wheel, which are £315 here?

My dad has hurt his back so cant fit it but he said I'd be able to do it and he would supervise/help me.

Please post thoughts/advice/links to products reccomended for a Fabis VRS 175bhp stage 1 Revo map.

Thanks

Adam

£600 off a family friend?! Unit 18 supplied and fitted a sachs clutch and dmf for my car for less than that, I think darkside would do the same job for £615 as well.

I run that sachs kit on a shark map and it is fine. I don't do track days or anything like that though just commuting and general driving. A lot of people on the forum run that clutch setup on "stage 1" maps.

It seems to have stopped doing it now, thinking maybe because it was stood for a while?

Either way it's working fine, was only doing it for about an hour, so confused.

How much are those sachs clutches to buy?

I had a quick look the yesterday and it;s like 315 from darkside.

But then other sites say 600 and some even 800 for the same kit (I think)

Also, few people posted on here that Darkside can't be trusted, etc?

Link me to the legit sachs clutch kit and DMF for future reference please.

Thanks.

The cost of a clutch/flywheel kit with the release bearing, which you may as well have changed while the box is off, come in at around £350-£360 as seen here

It's the labour that bumps the price up if getting the job done at a garage. Expect to pay anything from 4-6 hours depending on how competent the person doing the job is. Unit 18 will probably turn one round in 4 hours or less simply because they will have changed loads of these where as a smaller local garage might take a bit longer.

If your going to attempt the change yourself then it is doable DIY but you'll need something to support the gearbox. It's quite heavy so ideally an engine crane would be best and would help with trying to get it back on too. There could well be a guide on here if you do a bit of digging about that could help you to see if it's something you fancy tackling yourself or not.

Looks a good 300 miles away from me, hopefully when the time comes I can find somewhere closer, lol.
