Suspension problem

Featured Replies

So I've had my 2006 Fabia vRS for a month now. Today I had a 160 mile round trip, 80 miles roughly motorway and 80 miles of what I would class as council maintained A roads. When I bought it the previous owner said it was on coilovers however he had put the fronts back to just lowering springs as it was too harsh. Apart from driving it home the day I got it and locally to and from work since, the car hasn't really been anywhere any distance. After today's experience I am in desperate need of new suspension. It was fine on the motorway but on the A roads we were nearly bounced off the road on numerous occasions at no great speed. It was borderline unsafe. I don't want to lose the look of the way the car sits as I like the the ride height. What I am asking is:

1. Would I need to go right back to standard vRS setup all round or is there a coilovers set that I can buy that is similar to standard and won't throw me about?

2. How harsh are AP coilovers as I know a lot of you are running them and heard good things.

Sorry for the long winded post, just feeling a bit done as the rest of the car has been faultless until now.

I have aps and can't fault them I'm sure there's somebody near you (where ever you are) who can take you out if your anywhere near nuneaton midlands ill take you out

Wish I was bud, I stay in south west scotland. Like you say I'm sure someone will be close by. I'm leaning towards APs.

I have aps. There pretty good for comfort.

What about say if you hit a dip in the road Stevobevo, do they exaggerate it or is it not too bad. I put what we would now class as cheap coilovers on my old Octavia vRS and they were nothing like what I'm experiencing at the moment.

If you have coilovers and you drive over poor roads with lots of bumps and pot holes then you will feel it more so than with standard suspension. If you drive over decent roads then you wouldn't notice much difference apart from you get less movement through the corners, as in you would get less body roll.

Some will be worse than most like jom's ect. Aps and upwards should be pretty decent.

Have you thought about upgrading to uprated shocks and springs. Most people don't really need coilovers unless you plan to drive on tracks or wish to alter your ride height frequently.

Had thought about them, I noticed that a set of AP shocks and springs were roughly 80-100 less than the coilovers, I would assume they would be just as good. Like you say, if it's only for normal road use then coilovers aren't really necessary.

Its up to really my car came with coilovers and I think there fantastic much better than the set of koni's fitted to my mk1 golf, but if I had to replace them id probably go for the best shock and spring set up I could afford. That's all the rears are anyway only the fronts are true coilovers.
