Park Assist Bay Parking idiots guide please!

Featured Replies

Hello

Can anyone point me in the direction of a really clear guide to using the bay parking option on park assist?

I've had the previous version on my golf and that was great and relatively straightforward eg press the button and follow the guidance on forward/reverse.

I've read (and re-read) the manual around this and it notes that pressing the button once is parallel, twice is reverse bay and three times is forward bay. But if I press once it activates and then press again it deactivates. Does it need to be pressed a second time as you go past a bay space?

I've was trying to use a quiet part of the supermarket car park but Sod's law cars kept coming up behind me. I did end up in drive in bay mode but it wasn't very good and a bit back and forth but to be fair my starting position was off as I wasn't intending to do that!

Btw the thing that impresses people the most is the powered boot and I love the ACC with DSG as on the motorway it came rest in queues and then started up at a touch on the gas or a flick of the ACC lever.

My understanding from reading the manual is that the sensors assess which parking modes are possible and only those options are displayed and selectable.

With transverse (bay) parking the reverse and forward parking take a different line of approach and it may only offer reverse if there isn't enough room to make the forward approach.

So if we assume that forward and reverse bay parking are possible, but parallel is not, the sequence would be

Initial press = reverse into bay

2nd press = forward into bay

3rd press = cancel

4th press = back to reverse into bay (and further presses cycle through the same sequence)

If only reverse into bay is possible, then it would be

Initial press = reverse into bay

2nd press = cancel

3rd press = back to reverse into bay

and I'm guessing that's what was probably happening in your case.

So...

I've been playing in the car park and the way mine works (irrespective of whether it's meant to work like this!) is it seems to be context sensitive.

Press the button once puts it into park assist and then drive slowly past the spaces. If big enough for parallel that displays on maxi dot but if you ignore that space and drive past a bay the maxi changes to drive in bay, if I ignore and carry on it offers me reverse bay at which point in stopped and it then told me to reverse etc and worked really well. No second or third button press.

Also not sure how the drive out of space works and if that's only parallel.

If any other owners can confirm this is how theirs work I'd be grateful.

Thanks

As far as I know, SII does not have 'getting out of bay/parallel park' option. It has only 2 modes - parallel park and reversing in to bay. But Octavia III and SIII should have 3 modes.
