Garrett PD130

Featured Replies

I've got a Garrett PD130, I bought as spare.

It is a servicable turbo (place down the round Turbo Technics or whatever they are called saw it and confirmed it would be serviceable, but that it would ideally require a decoke).

The internal cartridge (which has no damage visible on the fins or scoring to indicate contact with the manifold) moves fine smoothly and doesn't have excess play, it came from a professional dismantler, the turbo was on a high milage Golf though and seems a bit coked up, the actuator is very restricted by coke build up so will need to be seperated.

I hoped I might be able to have a crack at this myself as I've seen the Drivbywire repair procedure to decoke turbos off the car. (this would be achievable if the turbo is seperated, without having to unbalance the actual internal cartridge, but its a bit stubborn and may need professional assistance)

I read that oxy would be the best bet to seperate the manifold for decoke, and since I haven't got that, and the gas bottles just don't cut it I'm at a loss.

I know AET in Normanton would do a turn around for a very econimcal £199 to full rebuild the turbo or hybird for around £400 which many do. Thats as good as a new turbo which is circa £600, or you might just want to decoke yourself if you can split the manifold.

So I'm offering this at £100 collected (this is a loss to me of £50 as I bought as much, its at least worth that just as exchange item on a new turbo). But just having it laying about until I MIGHT need it is starting to get on my nerves with the amount of stuff I have about.

Get some mr muscle oven cleaner and spray it down the egr port it will break up the Coke build up and will look almost like new once completed

I would want to clean it the proper clean way now its off the car, to be honest.

I understand for a car where the turbo is in situ and you are just trying to clean it up, but not once its off, you would want to thoroughly clean wherever possible, thats my feelings on it.
