BBC2 'Building Cars Live'.

Featured Replies

I see it is on at 7.30 pm in Scotland, no idea about other regions.

1 of 2,   James May, Kate Humble and Ant Antstead live at the MINI plant.

7:30 in England and Wales regions also, BBC2.

Thanks George. Series record set

BBC2 today 7.30

All regions

Found it very interesting, stumbled across it by accident :)

Would have been better without James May acting like a buffoon!!

I think he was trying his best to ensure it was only going to be for 1 episode... and get them kicked offsite!

I'd like to know how badly he broke the tailgate.

I'd like to know how badly he broke the tailgate.

I was thinking the same - first attempt well and truly shafted, I think they recovered the 2nd one! :peek:

Honestly I don't know how you can screw up that job.

He thinks he's still on Top Gear acting the idiot.....

Honestly I don't know how you can screw up that job.

As was said further up the thread - I really don't think James May added much to the show..... or the production line! :giggle:

I thought the guy was going to punch him out if he never stepped out the way of the Shutter door.

I would have.

PS

I think Jeremy Clarkson might have as well.

I bet people who have ordered Mini's and expecting delivery in the next couple of weeks are crapping themselves... please not the JM built one...!

I'd have laughed if that guy had launched the car from the top of the wagon though.

Pretty mainstream stuff. Steel delivered. Robots do their stuff. It's painted. Built up inside and shipped out. Why it has to be two one and a half hour programmes I don't know. The guy wanting JM out of the way of the shutter door was funny - like above, I think he'd have punched him if he hadn't moved.

The electric cars item in Norway was interesting though. Does make me wonder whether it's viable or not, or could be made to be. I know they get taxed a lot there so maybe it's heavily subsidised whereas here, it'll be down to "the market". Good old politics....

The UK has been doing the £5,000 Grant for EV's in the UK long enough now and are still not winning that many over.

Time now to give £5,000 to anyone that scraps a Diesel Engine Vehicle that is over 6 years old if they buy a

Petrol car with Low Euro 6 Emission under 110ps or a full EV vehicle not a Hybrid & they keep it for at least 4 years.

& only to buy / lease 'Built in Britain Cars only;

and put 2 fingers up to those manufacturing in Mainland Europe.

Call the EU Bluff before the 'In Out Referendum and see if the EU throws the UK out.

Not sure I understand that one.  £5,000 no strings attached is not attractive.  But £5,000 with lots of conditions is going to make a difference?

It was not a serious post, so pointless picking faults with it.

Like with the UK Government Green Credentials and how they support the Manufacturing Industries in the UK.

P.S. I found the programme dull.. Really dull.  Dull, Dull, Dull.

I have to say dull lots of times.  Just like James had to say "body in white" lots of times.  That's what holds the viewers' attention.  Repetition.  Lots of repetition.  Repetition.

Dull.

Sorry.  Missed that angle.

Well perhaps I'm easily pleased but I thought it was a great program, very interesting to see a 1000 mini's roll of the line in a day with robots doing a lot of the build and changing paint colours automatically and that made me start to think what's happening on the VAG production lines at the moment in the states, have they all come to a sudden halt with a stockpile of thousands of VW not up to American spec or are the shipping them over to Europe.?

It is a good thing that Beauty in the eye of the beholder.

(i took my ample gut & butt and heaved it into and out of the drivers seat.)

I don't mind the overall look, it's just that I wish they would stop making them bigger each generation. Even the original 'new' mini is starting to look small against the latest versions.
