If it's not one thing it's another

Featured Replies

Well as you know I have been trying to rectify faults on my Vrs with considerable help from everyone on here. Not quite there yet but hey it's all good fun.

Dropped my daughter at school this morning, got home and thought I'd check my discs to see if they were hot (after reading a thread on here about sticking calipers) 3 were fine, burnt my fingers on the other - no seriously - f*ck me it was hot :sun: .

Anyway took the wheel off, moved the caliper and tied it up, cleaned the pads etc went back to the car and saw a puddle underneath the car. Transpires that the rigid brake pipe was so covered in crap it had pretty much rusted through and the slightest movement caused the rust to split and the leak to begin.

Stuck everything back together and drove the 600m to the local garage I've used for years for simple stuff and left the car with him.

I reckon there was an inch of crap covering the rigid pipe and it probably hadn't been replaced in the life of the car! Asked him to do the other side at the same time, seemed like a sensible thing to do

Took the caliper off again, took it home and gave it a good clean, piston is all good, pads are thick so I'll get him to stick it back together and see what happens then.

Couldn't see any reason for it to be sticking though, anyone got any thoughts?

Calipers do stick, and its usually caused out of sight.

on my Fabia (I run the 256mm rear brakes too) I had the same, and ended up biting the bullet and getting a pair of new calipers from Ebay instead,  Solved my issue.
