I've had my car in for an annual service with VASSTECH (Darlington) and advised that the EGR has an oil leak and a cost of £311.65 to replace it.

 

I've read the threads on EGR delete pipes ... is this the easiest option to resolve this issue ?

For roughly the same price you could buy an egr delete, fit it yourself and get a remap. This is ballpark the cost of what I paid for my darkside egr delete and shark remap.

As part of the remap you can get the engine management light sorted which will come on as a result of removing the egr.

To be honest though mate, if a remap isn't your thing, don't be afraid of having a go at replacing an egr valve yourself, it its pretty straight forwards.

You could buy one and replace it for a lot less than that garage is quoting.

You could also just remove yours and give it a good clean. That would would more than likely help the situation. It's more than likely pretty clogged up.

What benefits do I get by fitting the EGR delete and remap it out other than the obvious bhp increase ?

you may not need to map it out if you have an edc15 "computer"   you will only get a light on with an edc16   best to disconnect the pipe to the top(of the valve)  and block it for a day or two and see if a light comes on,  if not you can save on the remapping    ---mapping out and a kit won''t give any more power unless you are going further with tuning  the oil however will still leak don't be tempted to block those breather holes in the valve 

I got quoted £50 just to map out the EML light, doing the EGR change yourself is easy enough just can be a little fiddly. No way would i be paying what they quoted.

I've got an egr valve here mate and I'm in Darlington. Give me a shout if you need one.

yeh I've done the delete mate, made sod all difference apart from make the bay look a bit tidier lol
