'Map Out' EGR system?

Featured Replies

Can somebody please explain what happens when the EGR system is fully in place but 'mapped out'?

Specified MAF is always 850 and at low revs EGR duty is 19.9%

What would be the implications of this setup?

Thanks

Pretty sure it just keeps it closed all the time. Pretty much the same as having it physically deleted.

Mapped out is simply the EGR map being altered so its never used.

EGR is only used at part throttle.

Could it cause problems with idle or is it totally unrelated?

Unrelated regarding the mapping. However if theirs an EGR fault then I don't know.

The only problem is long warm up times. Particularly with low load driving.

Ive just fitted an allard delete pipe and obviously the car threw a code up, my question is simply how do you go about mapping it out?

I have VCDS just not entirely sure where to go from here

Matt

Needs to be done in the map itself. Ie a remap. Can't be done via VCDS.

Yup easy enough to remap out (and thats on both engines!)

Just need a competent mapper

I did it my self with VAG EDC15P+ Suite and a 10 quid cable.

Left is default, right is mapped out.

Did that work for you?

My EDC15 PD engine has EGR mapped out by changing about 3 key values.  Not by flattening the maps.

Flattening the map worlds on the asz. But theirs also a switch you can use.

As far as i know both work, i used to map way because if the engine isn't expecting the EGR to be open via the map it wont throw up a CEL. I may be wrong though.

No that's work. It's one of them, more than one way of archiving same result.

What can you do with the egr on the se model?

I think it has the blt engine?

If you map its out and leave the valve in i would think that it will still leak air through the valve if the valve is buggered?

I guess so if its buggered by sticking open. Also I'm pretty sure the se is mapped out the same. Or you could delete it and map it out.

For the EGR do you need to change both EGR code block 5 and EGR codeblock 2 - manual, or just one set of values. Done both on mine with no noticable problems but notice that in your post you only appear to have eddited codeblock 2. One of first roads that I encounter from cold is an uphill climb after exiting a junction, and just felt to pull better in the lower range (1250 - 1750 rpm) - placebo effect?

Only need to do block two on everything. I like to keep block five as default incase i want to revert back a few values. Then its just a copy and paste job.

Had EML and limp mode with both maps flattened, cleared error codes and re-loaded original map, but will try the single map change as just may be the fact that there is no baseline for engine if both maps are the same.

What's your engine code?

What's your engine code?

 BNM - 1.4 TDI 70.

Now been 12 months with no EML or limp mode after re-loading with just block 5 changed.

  • 9 months later...

20 months down line, still no error codes. Have any of you VRS drivers done this, especially on the engine with the anti-shudder, and is it working without adding full delete kit.

This is one of the methods of mapping it out. So should be no issues
