Rear Bump Stops

Featured Replies

While in for a service with VASSTECH I was informed my rear bump stops need replacing for a cost of £97.99

Do powerflex do these ? Or can you get polyeurathene ones ?

Powerflex do some generic ones in different sizes and I'm sure one would fit the fabia. They don't do any off the shelf specific for the fabia though if I remember correctly.

Replaced mine with some standard ones not long ago on the basis it has taken 10 years for them to perish so they won't need doing again whilst I've got the car.

Is it a DIY job for a novice ?

You need to take out the rear wheel arch plastic liners and then remove the dampers. Then you remove the top mounts from the dampers and slide the old bump stops off and fit the new ones. It's not particularly difficult but obviously it depends on your skill levels.

I replaced the drop link on the front suspension ... so am learning as I go

From skoda dealer in february they cost me £12.63 +vat each if that helps.

I was quoted £98 supply and fit ... either they must take a couple of hours to fit or they buy expensive parts lol

Or they don't know what they are doing, or they have an over inflated labour rate lol.

Sounds about right for most garages ... I'm still to find a reliable one with reasonable charges

I did this a few days ago. Bump stops were £7 each (original) from ebay. Only slightly difficult part was removing the top nuts.

There is a 1/4 inch flat on the damper main shaft at the very top which you are supposed to keep stationary (stop the shaft turning) as you try to remove the (16mm ?) nut but to loosen the bolt I had to clamp the flat in my workbench vice.

Sounds about right for a garage,1 hour labour +parts + VAT be knocking on £100.

How old/many miles have your shock absorbers done?

If they are getting on I would be looking at replacing them whilst they are off :)
