Rear LED Side light bulbs questions

Featured Replies

I'm considering enabling the rear lights to come on with the daylight running lights, and I am wondering are rear LED bulbs as good/bright as normal bulbs?

Also do they need to be can bus safe?

(2015 Fabia Monte Carlo)

Leds generally dont work very well as taillights unless the housing is made specifically for them.

If you were to do it, they would need to be canbus though.

Usually sidelights, interior and numberplate ones are good to do though ;) haha.

Actually on the MQB platform (ie new Fabia, Octavia, Golf VII etc) you can specify the type of bulb with VCDS, so canbus safe should no longer be required. I also think that as long as you get a bulb with many small leds showing in different direction it will work in standard tail lights as well. I actually had LED tail bulbs in my previous Roomster, but those were canbus.
