New Octy 4X4 TDi Estate - anyone got one?

Featured Replies

Hi After 3 fun months in the G/F's Furby vRS I am considering a new Octy 4x4 estate Tdi for work (if they are any about, quoted up to 12 weeks delivery at the mo). Has anybody got one yet? If so how are you finding it and if you have it on contract hire it would be interesting to know how much its costing to see if the local dealers are trying to pull a fast one!

Cheers in advance

Ric

No, sorry, I'm waiting for a 130TDi version :)

Have you seen inside one? If so, what is the trim like?

You'll have a long wait. If there is a more powerful version brought out it will be the 2.0 140bhp version.

Ideally one of these would be my next purchase IF they do a 2.0TDI 140bhp (minimum) with a DSG option.

If the Audi spec is anything to go on with the A3, you can have either DSG or Quattro, not both. Why?!

Problems mating the gearbox and 4WD system?

Steve

The first car I think that got the DSG was the Audi TT 3.2 Quattro so it must be possible.

That's true, and the Veyron has 4WD :D

Just annoying, and Audi has lost at least one sale, as my manager at work would have got an A3 DSG Quattro 2.0TDI Sport if it was available

Not really sure why you should have to settle for one or the other, especially as it's technically possible. Thinking now though, I don't know of any DIESEL VAG car to have both DSG and 4WD?

Steve

Must be a torque thing. The DSG can handle the diesel car torque levels through 2 wheels but maybe not 4

Does take me back to thinking about the managing a DSG 7-speed in the Veyron, with enough torque to move the world, but perhaps with a pretty unlimited R&D budget!!

Maybe they'll crack it in time - I'm in no rush to change the Furby yet

Steve

Like others Im waiting for the bigger Engine, 90 bhp just isnt enough for the 4x4. Does anyone know if the bigger Diesel Engines are available on the continent, that way I can know if they actually make them, if not its got to be an Audi or a Legacy.

see my post on your other thread

just a quick note on the engine having had one for 2 months I am pleasantly suprised it pulls over 3 figures (on private driveways) with ease and if you use the gears is quick enough off the mark

Its actually 105 BHP and I'm getting one for the day next wednesday so I'll let you know what it goes like, tho I dont think it will touch the g/f's Furby vRS for a second  . The trims pretty standard to the rest of the range from what I've seen tho leather is a cost option at around £1200 (you get heated seats and active headrest thrown in with it too). Not bad spec as standard, things included are 6 speed box, ESP, climate control and leather wheel n gearstick etc so its a little bit better spec'ed than the elegance model. Cruise is an option as is xenons, roof and various audio upgrades as with the rest of the range bar the L & K's. Judging by the responce so far I guess I could be one of the first to get one on here as I have just one thumbs up so far with the other double post, tho I have been warned that it might be built to order if I'm fussy on spec (12 weeks) as I want Black Magic paint and they are a little low in availability in the supply chain so more may have one b4 me!

Cheers for that Blades, have had a Silver one offered from stock with cruise fitted but no sure with colour as it will be sign lettered and I was visioning Dark with Silver lettering hence the Black Magic or a Deep blue at the least (and metallic as I suffer a bad reaction to soap and polish, its called Lazy bu**eritis) and as I tend to work in mucky garages a dark or easy wipe clean interior is a must too.

Ok had the estate for the day last wednesday, its a shame its missing the extra 25bhp it could have had (but then again should be easy to sort out  ) but as the demo only had 1700 miles on the clock maybe it wasnt lose enough yet. Pulled very well through the gears and happly cruised between 80 - 90 errrrr sorry officer, 70mph and overtook with ease in 6th. The ride was excellent as was the road holding considering 1, its an estate and 2, its jacked up a bit and riding on fatter than normal tyres (the wheels do seem too small for the arches tho). Couple of things I didnt like were the auto wipers as they havent got a clue in mucky damp winterish weather and the step over into the seat, I'm 6 foot (tho a bit short in the leg dept) and its a bit of a climb over if your parked on a funny angle.

The end result?

Storm Blue with cruise and maxidot arriving friday and hoping I dont see a vRS before then lol!!!

not sure aboiut the new ones but with the old shape the estates halndled better than the hatch apparently

towed our caravan the other day and it pulled in 6th at 50mph with out any problems. I don't seem to find the lack of bhp a problem, but I can feel a bit of Custom Coding coming on though

Or dare I suggest Jabba, they did a stunning job on our old 1.9 Tdi :) :)

that diesel engine seems a bit weedy for the car tbh.

Having had ours for 2 months and put 4k on it. It doesn't feel that much different from my 320d. You have to change up gears quickly but it cruises at motorway speeds with ease and you can really chuck it into the corners where it holds the road as good as my old vrs. I would deffo test drive one but if looking for performance than you'd have to go for the vrs. It's horese for courses with us as we wanted something that would tow a caravan ok but didn't fancy having another 4x4 (traded in a 3 year old rav4). I did take it on a wet field in Newquay and it pulled out brilliantly.

Forgot to mention that I carry over 20 stones worth of gear around with me and my employee so it was like having a family in it (plus I am on the wrong side of 16 stone). As I stated it could do with the extra 25 or so BHP but ingear torque was quite impressive when overtaking esp as it was loaded up. I noticed that the box was easier to find 3rd than the fabia which helped (the number of times I've been embarrasing 'hot hatches' driven by pimply morons and missed 3rd when rushing the box is unbelievable!).

I have it!! And after the weekend playing with it, I like it, yes its a bit gutless from 0-60 but overtakings not a problem. Headlight washers scare the hell out of you on dark country roads as the light is suddenly cut by over 70% for a few seconds by the jet housing tho!!! Can highly recommend it as a alternative to a Vitara/Rav4/Freelander or just to be a bit different to a standard estate. Over 40 mpg fully loaded & carrying 4 adults too, and I wasnt hanging about on my way to the Black Sheep Bewery in Masham either on Friday evening - Beer had to be drunk!!

The 105PD in the 4x4 should remap quite nicely, whichever tuner you go with as it has an FMIC as standard which will help alot.
