H&R springs and dampers or AP coilovers ... help please

Featured Replies

Hi ... I've owned my VRS estate for nearly 4 weeks now and I want to start work on it.

I'd like to lower the car, and after reading topics on the forum I'm not sure which way to go. My last car was a MK1 Audi TT and I had this lowered using AP coilovers which were brilliant, wondering if they'll be as good on the Skoda?

I'm also considering H&R springs with Bilstien dampers?

I know with the springs it'll get it down bout 40mm and level the car out, the coilovers might get it down lower to 50mm and further still if I take out the adjuster ring on the rear and use the original top mounts/cups instead of the AP ones.

When I bought the AP coils for the TT when they were first fitted at the rear and wound right down they only slightly lowered the car and I had to fiddle with the rear alot - fronts had plenty of drop.

Thing that concerns me is that the Fabia all be it a good car which I enjoy driving does rattle a little and with a harder and lowered ride height will it rattle even more especially on Sheffields not so smooth roads!

Has anyone put on either AP coilovers or dampers and springs??

Help would be appreciated ...

Thanks ... Phil

Hi Phil,

I've currently got some AP Coilovers to fit, I'm on H&R springs with standard shocks at the moment ride is quite crashy.

Drop is ok with springs but the coilovers look a lot better adjustment wise if you want to wait a week I can kee you updated with how I get on after fitting.

Richard

It would be worth checking out what mmmRacer is doing with his vRS Estate in Australia for Track & Hillclimbs.

a Stage 2 tuned estate.

Suspension, Brakes, Exhaust etc.

You might find the slightly higher at the rear stance even when lowering helps the Estate with traction that vRS hatches sometimes lack.

I can't wait myself lowered 40mm on springs looked good but always looked at my car and thought it can down a little more. Hopefully ride will be better and handling will get better too :) il make a topic when they are fitted.

I've got a vRS estate on H+R springs and the ride is great, better than stock. Handles very well too with a lot of body roll eliminated. It isn't the most dramatic drop, certainly not a "slammed" look but definitely a more sporting/aggressive stance. Very happy with it and good value for money upgrade :-)
