Vrs Estate Rear Wobble side to side? Help

Featured Replies

Hi All

New here! Help!!

2006 VRS Estate 2.0 TFSI 6 Speed Man. 72k

Need Help with Wobble or side to side motion noticeable at 30 to 80mph (feels unsafe to go above this)

  • I thought the seized rear caliper, which was binding was the cause? (Nope Replaced and New Pads)Same

  • Also tyres/wheels (225 40 R18 any issues with this size) Bridgestones with 10k wear.

  • Rebalanced and swapped front to back No signs of uneven wear or flat spots (no change)

  • Slight weep from 2 dampers but not bad at all. (may change anyway)

  • Front and Rear Springs look to be orginal (again may change)

  • Fresh MOT but is possible this fault wasn't obvious?

Anyway where to start with checking and which bushes or Linkages to start with?

Your thoughts please

useful ones!! :)

If you have balanced all 4 wheels did the tyre fitter look at them as they were spinning to check if you have a buckled wheel?

Also I would jack each wheel up individually and check all the bushes and linkages for play.

Thanks

Yes I watched when it was done! I didn't see any movement. Checked sidewalls etc

even gave wheels a shake nothing inside moving around (you never know)

No change when wheels swapped front to rear.

I am going to try another set of 18's off a GTI. Just to double check.

Did come across this:

will check track rod/drop links?

I know from experience VAG vehicles have issues with tyre wear on rears (feathering on edge causing vibration) Tyres good on mine!!

I doubt the rear tyre wear issue will be causing the symptoms you describe.  It sounds to me like a buckled wheel / tyre out of shape / something loose.

Solved it!!

OSR lower Track Rod Arm.

Bush had come away from arm and was metal to metal. No noise or play!!

Glad you got it sorted.
