Rear light cluster come adrift

Featured Replies

I decided to give the Yeti a wash yesterday.  Not a particularly common occurrence, but she was pretty filthy after 1,000 miles plus in six days up and down the country.

Whilst engaged in this endeavour, I noticed that the nearside rear light cluster seemed to be adrift.  Popping the rear door I found that the two torx screws were secure, but the two spigot-thingys which plug in to two receptacles within the bodywork were not staying put.  They would go in perfectly OK - almost to easily, in fact - but would pop out again within a few seconds.

I've no idea how long it had been like that, but since it had had a service & MOT just before we went away I assume it must have been OK then.  I didn't want to leave the cluster hanging on by the screws alone, that seemed like a good way to precipitate a fracture in the plastic.  So I ended up resorting to a few strips of insulating tape to hold the cluster in place with the spigots seated in their holes.

Has anyone seen this kind of problem before, or have any suggestions as to how to resolve it properly?

The only things I have any faith in are made in a metal......good pics'd help.

Sounds like someone has tried to nick it.

It's possible to do that if it gets knocked by some oaf in a car park.

Have you removed the lamp unit?

When I have taken it off, I noticed when it is pushed back into place it needs to be squared up to the bodywork and pushed straight forwards, it should pretty much hold itself in place and then you can fit the screws.

If its not located properly then the screws don't line up.

If its been forced any other way then the unit could be cracked/broken.
