He could be right, depending on what you buy and who fits them.

I've been down the route of fitting what I thought were "good" rear pads to my old B5 Passat, bought ATE pads - they were great - at making bus brake noises.  I think that the trouble is, ECP and others, just stock a "short" range of bits, they are safe to use, but as I discovered, they don't all come with an anti-squeal shim as part of the pad.

So, lesson learned, I moved on to using TMD Friction parts, ie as used at factory under their Textar and Pagid brand names - then I discovered that ECP who are listed as the main/sole agent in UK for TMD parts, were again only selling "short" ranges and could not buy the correct pad kits as listed in the TMD web-cat from their main/sole UK parts agent, maybe being slightly petty here but in 2005 late B5 Passat front pads being sold by ECP - Textar brand, were in fact a "Japan only" market version according to the TMD web-cat with slight mechanical differences, so going for broke I contacted TMD Friction and they sorted me out with the exact pad kit I needed, same thing happened with wife's 9N Polo though I sorted that out via TMD again - at that time brake parts suppliers did not seem to know which pad wear connector which car needed (not a Fabia issue I think).

To cut a long story short, does noisy brakes annoy you or impress you?  If it annoys you, a tube of CopperEase will probably sort things out for a while.

On the subject of spark plugs, I've always used what the factory fitted and in my case all my VAG cars so far have come fitted with (VAG branded) NGK spark plugs, and there are some specialist sellers of NGK plugs on internet.
