Featured Replies

hellow guys!!!

if you know in Belgium the taxes are such verry higher for a 2.0 tdi than for a 1.9tdi,wich one shud y choose??? i want to pay more taxes if the 2.0 is much better than the 1.9!!!

example:

1.9TDI= subscribtion taxes(once for a new car)

Have you driven both? :D It's hard to tell you which is better as it's a very personal thing! :D I believe the 1.9 (130bhp engine) is much more economical and more tunable, but the 2.0 (140bhp engine) is more powerful in standard form....

Chris

Never heard of fiscal horsepower. The 2.0 TDi has 25% more power that the 1.9 Tdi and there's a big difference in them to drive. The 1.9 is good but the 2.0 is too and it's quick. Your extra taxes work out £25 a month in our money but i'd gladly pay the difference.

You have to factor in additional insurance costs, fuel costs and of course a higher capital cost to buy the car though if you opt for the 1.9 TDi.

The 1.9 in the octy2 is actually 105 bhp, but it drives as quickly, if not more so than my previous Mk1 110bhp.

Another factor has to be the price difference - the 2.0 being about

I have never driven a 2.0 but it gets excellent reports. The 1.9 is quite quick enough for my every day needs, It will cruise smoothly at illegal speeds on the motorway and has enough poke to safley overtake in all but the dubious of circumstances - and mine is returning 52mpg with the DSG auto box :thumbup: although I don't do much city driving.

At the end of the day it's personal choice, but my view is that many cars now have more power than they need.[/quote']

I agree, the 1.9 is a great car. I just wanted something quick but sensible that the family would be ok with. I went for the 2.0. It has more power than i need but it's a hoot to drive.

I managed to test drive both the 1.9 and the 2.0 TDi Octy 2s and went for the 2.0 in the end (roll on January). I liked the 1.9, but found the 2.0 smoother as well as slightly quicker. I do mostly motorway miles and felt the 2.0 was the better cruising engine, even if it is not as economical. The 1.9 Octy 2 is a lot smoother than the 1.9 (130bhp) Seat Toledo I currently drive though.

I found the 2.0 a lot quicker than the 1.9. TBH especially from standstill and 2nd gear has unbelievable pull. The 1.9 was nippy ok but theres so much torque in my 2.0 that the ESP light makes regular appearances if I accelerate in any way hard even in 2nd gear. The 2.0 takes a lot of getting used to but it's a very rewarding drive.

I agree. The 2.0 is very quick, particulaly overtaking. The 1.9 is more tunable at the moment, but that is probrobly because it has been around longer. There are now re maps for the 2.0 TDi. To be honest I wouldn't want to tune mine , it slips quite a bit as it is even in second on all but the dryest of roads. Suppose answer is take a couple of test drives and see!

Make sure you get a test drive for at least a couple of hours if not longer. A run up the street and back again with the dealer breathing down your neck is'nt enough to do the car justice. That applies to both the 1.9 and 2.0 Tdi.

couldn't agree more, the 1.9 PD engine is miles smoother than the previous 1.9 110 hp (which was no bad motor!)

One thing that surprised me was my 1.9 Toledo (130bhp) feels a bit quicker than the 2.0 TDi Octy. I guess it

There's a big difference in terms of quality too between the current seat and skoda ranges. I tried the new Altea and Leon. Neither were a patch on the Octy II for build quality.

Seat quality hasn't got worse' date=' it just hasn't kept up with the rest. sad really.[/quote']

You hit the nail on the head I think. Funnily enough I looked at the new Leon as I can get an even better discount on them than I can on an Octy, but was sadly disappointed with the interior quality and the rock hard ride. I

No, but there might be a lookalike on here. hehe!

I have the 1.9 engine and it's plenty fast enough for motorway use, I still haven't mastered a fast junction pull away in the wet without seeing the TC light come on. :rolleyes:

My colleague who has a Laguna DCi with IIRC about 130bhp commented on how fast the Octavia felt.

1.9TDI= subscribtion taxes(once for a new car) €123

traffictaxes: each yaer=€330 means a total of €453!!!

2.0TDI=subscription taxes: €495

raffictaxes: each year=€437 means a total of €932!!!

difference:€479!!! and that for <<1 fiscal horsepower>>!!

in belgium a 1.9TDI got 10 fiscal HP and a 2.0TDI got 11 HP!!

conclusions!!!! please,I like to pay more taxes if the 2.0 is better than a1.9!!

so: its up to you peoples!!:thumbup:

Hi there, I'm from belgium too (Zaventem). I drive the 1.9 for almost 7 months now.

I bought it because of insurance issues. My insurance company wouldn't sell me an "omnium" insurance (or another one) on the 2.0TDI, because I'm only 22. (I've bought the car with my own money).

But I've let my father buy the car and let him ensure it, because even the 1.9 would cost me up to 2300 euro / year omnium. Which is A LOT, for someone who has driven for 4 years without any accident what so ever. So my father ensured the car, for only just over 1000 euro, also omnium.

Ensurance guys = frauds.

Looking afterward, I would have better gone for the 2.0, because that wouldn't cost me anything more.

It has A LOT more punch when you go driving it (I drove one of the first, manufactured in 2004) than the 1.9. The 1.9 is the perfect engine for the octavia, it is certainly not UNDERpowered, it still goes fast enough for me and for the avarage driver.

But the 2.0 has a lot more power, and it has the 6-gears box, which could be usefull if you drive a lot of motorway miles. It's a completely different experience of driving. And when I bought my car, the difference between them was only 1000 euro + 150 euro difference in "inschrijvingstax". That's it. So now I actually regret not having bought the 2.0TDI... But hey, the 1.9 is fine ! It has a consumption of 5.1 liters/100km on our belgian roads, measured over 10000 KM, which is VERY good !

But when you will go test-driving, you will see that the 2.0 is much much better. It is also euro4 compliant, where my 1.9 is only euro3 compliant.

Later on, they might give you a tax reduction if you own a euro4 car instead of a more polluting euro3 car. It might even be so that the euro3 1.9 becomes more expensive then than the 2.0 euro4...

Ohyeah, I would wait untill the "autosalon" in January, I bought mine then, and it saved me 2000 euro.

The car you buy then will be a 2006 car, and not a 2005 one, which might make a (small) difference in reselling afterwards.
