Galaxy S4 'Sim not inserted' error warranty issue & Amazon + **2017 Motorola issues**

Just a couple of pointers.

With regards to Amazon trying to negate their responsibility and refer you to the manufacturer. They are fully responsible for the faulty goods. They must reimburse you, the customer (or fix it) and get recompense from their supplier. This is very clear in consumer law :)

The Sales of Goods Act has now been superseded by the Consumer Rights Act 2015. More protection is now available :)

Amazon haven't tried to palm me off, I tried Samsung first as it was beyond 12 months and they are meant to in my opinion honer their own warranty. I hit out at Amazon after for not highlighting that the standard 2 year warranty wouldn't nessesarily apply because Samsung are ****s. Amazon just took details of my issue ish sort of by way of a overseas call centre and trying to get my point across. Then the UK CS came back with the offer.

I took their offer without trying to get any more out of them as I have had the guts of 2 years heavy usage and over 1TB of pics through it to date. I merely wanted my existing old phone to be repaired as the fault is a common one through no doing of my own, instead I ultimately got offered £150 off my next phone which is far more than the value of the phone in working order at this stage, so seems a better fair deal to me.

I replied to their email today and said I will take the credit please, went to work and on my break checked my emails and got a confirmation that it had been authorised and was awaiting me in my account with 10 years to spend it. So I immediately ordered the X Play for £99.99 on top. If my phone hadn't have developed a fault, I would have been getting a new phone in a few months sim free anyway and if the S7 didn't impress me it would have been the X Play anyway.

***EDIT***

Just going over my order history on the item now and they seem to have had to refund my order £215 odd which adds up to my £150 voucher offered then the VAT I had refunded on original order, so it's cost Amazon a bit more than a brand new replacement would have cost in the end muwhahahahaha.

Curve ball for you: https://www.wileyfox.com/storm/

The non removable battery is 2600mah not 3630mah like the x play which is a big factor to me. It has 1gb more ram than the x play, same snapdragon 615 CPU but running slower at 1.5ghz, x play is stable at 1.7ghz. 2.4ghz single channel wifi vs dual 5ghz on x play etc etc The fact they don't dare publish battery life at all against the similar power sucking hardware makes it seem it must really be grim! They don't state what they have covered the screen with, gorilla glass I'd assume, but not stated so weird. The dual sim thing seems a bit of a gimmick as it's 1 sim and 1 micro SD or 2 sims only.

Sadly, for all the hype, WileyFox is just another cheap chi-phone - in this case made to order by a UK startup company.

Follow up for this thread, I have been impressed with my Moto X Play as a great value all rounder and all was great........ Then this afternoon I noticed some app icons greyed out then discovered it's not recognising my micro SD card being inserted. I reset, removed and reinserted cards etc no joy, then googled to see it's a massively common issue with this model and I've lost everything :o (backed all up at start of Jan so not overly serious a loss). Now as This replaced my S4 from above in thread which stopped reading SIM and at just shy of 2 years old Amazon gave me £150 credit which I used towards this one, I went back onto the site to click on the support icon for the Moto X Plays order, they called me instantly and within 3 minutes full refund agreed and I will get the full £249.99 into my account not the £99.99 I paid and the Amazon credit.

So I am back to square one, I only said to someone 2 days ago I really like this phone and have no way to justify changing it for another year or two in a spec sense, typical! Looking around to see what to replace it with, I can get the same phone only it's now more expensive and with these last 2 phones being backed up in the fairly hassle free way they have with amazon, I intend to only purchase directly from amazon (sold by not fulfilled by).

Anyone got any ideas about what to buy sim free? Looked at S7 Edge, but to me it's not worth the price anymore after this Motorola has drawn me away from the flagships price tags.

Motorola G4 range?

Have just been looking at the G4 Plus there now. Seems a tiny step up for a really low price £189.99 from amazon. But I am a little disappointed not to see a 32gb version on there with 3 or 4 GB ram to make it a real step up which I'd happily pay for, but amazon don't stock them.

No real deals to be had at moment on the G4 Plus, the Play model seems to have the most. Amazon still coming up cheapest. Annoyingly on the motorola site I do the build thing and it offers engraving on back so I type in 'FUBAR' and it's not allowed! Cheeky sods!

Is that not the MOG10?

Got the price down to £224 plus 5% cashback to come off on top (maybe maybe not). Beat their engraving and boot screen customisation's by making it 'FU8AR' B)

No there's a unidays code thread on hotukdeals to request a unidays code

Iirc from when I got my Z play,  it's 15% for Motorola.

I have now migrated back to the original Galaxy S4 of this thread, having used a multi size sim I had lying around and using the final frame on it to turn my nano sim from the moto back into a micro sim for the S4. So far all evening it hasn't thrown the insert sim ultimatum. It did randomly develop a long crack diagonally across screen from a 30cm fall onto a rubberised surface a few weeks back which I will need to watch while I wait for 17th Feb.

Sod moto for being utter C#@?'s and winding me up! (see here) Another thread on this issue After an afternoon of messing about genuinely about to go out and buy a 'BUSH' E4X from Argos instead, I discovered the Lenevo P2 :o:o:o Now jumping into the vRS to drive 120 miles to pick one up form my local Three store as they have them at £199.99 (+£10 top up) 5100mah battery 1080p super amoled screen snapdragon 625 all better than the G4 Plus that's on it's way form China one of these weeks maybe (to be returned for refund immediately). WHOOP WHOOP Camera isn't just as good though bahhh.

S4 Plus has arrived and awaiting returns label to be emailed to me (this can take up to 48 hours), then have to wait another 3 days for DHL to call me to arrange a pick up time, then wait a further 4-7 days for it to get to their processing place in Germany and another 2-3 days for it to be processed there and refund issued and finally bank clearing time lol.

Not opened it but it's all loose inside the sealed box WTF? I'd have been furious if I had have waited for all this time to get it like this. Sounds like charger and handset both loose inside an empty box.

Final result though when I added it up last night with all my refunds etc to date. Since I got my S4 and had near 2 years perfect use, then the moto X-Play again was really happy until another common hardware failure and now my new Lenovo P2 with it's warranty, my total spend has been £169.33 to have a sim free decent ish spec smart phone since 2013. S4 still in use as a dash cam and can be used as a annoyingly unreliable backup phone like I have been, CEX would give me £67 for it still LOL

The rattle is the battery which is removable in the G4.

Funny, I was just going to suggest the P2. I decided to update my X Play but found £370 for the z play too steep a price. Then I found the P2, got great reviews on coolsmartphone.com so I bought it. Best I have managed on the battery so far is three days - and that included a train trip to London and back watching netflix etc. Very very impressive phone.

Really liking it so far and first charge got me 6 days, 2nd got me 5 and a half, then I charged it yesterday afternoon :D 6 days remaining at moment. I was off work using up my holidays and nursing a bad knee so not the heaviest of usage, but WOW! Who needs a 3310 :P

Have found it difficult to get covers for it not much selection around, got a ebay china skin for sides/back for £2.84 and it arrived on Saturday absolutely perfect fit and all holes in right places. Ordered another even though price has shot up to £2.99 :D I GOT THIS ONE IN GREY

Did you get yours for £199.99 from Three unlocked too? Others have followed since I got mine who had been eyeing it up locally. Build quality with all metal frame and back is epic. Camera is ok, better than the X-Play for sure, water resistance and drop testing is utterly scary though (hence fast purchase of a skin for first time on any phone i've owned in some years! Motorola should be getting the G4 Plus back in Germany today I look forward to my feckin refund!

Yeah I got a leather flip case for it, cost me about £9. I've not really played with the camera yet, I thought the x play camera was pretty good to be honest. I was going to hold off for the G5 plus but now it's out I see it doesn't have NFC and it's goign to be around the same price as the P2. The P2 is around 90% the same qualities / components as the z play. Things I miss are the Moto Display - I hadn't really realised that was a thing as such but now I don't have it I quite miss it. Also the Moto gestures to open the camera I used to use a lot.

Picked it up for £199 at my local three store. They said they'd never been asked for one before. I said "do you have the P2?" and they were suprised but very keen to show it to me. They said I couldn't buy it unless I was an existing customer but when I said I would buy a £10 sim card could I then buy the phone and funnily enough they allowed me to buy it. Not looked back so far. Vastly vastly underrated phone.
