fabia vrs stops reving at 4k rpm in 4th

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently went out on track at snetterton. I had a great day but i have found something which may be a problem. When driving hard round the track the car is fine in first to third gear and will pull hard to about 4.5k rpm before i change up... But once im into 4th and really gunning it the car will still pull well to about 4k rpm and then it will feel like its lost power and will just stay at 4k rpm even with my foot to the floor... Until i change up to 5th and then it will go fine again

Another thing i noticed is if im cruising in 4th for a bit and then put my foot down it will then rev fine through to 4.5k like in all the other gears.

My car has a stage 1 map to 180hp from shark and im running the stock intercooler...

Any advice or experice people have had with this would be appreciated

Thanks

Andy

Similar issue to me Andy at Combe and on the day at Snet. Though I kept going into limp home mode and generating fault codes at Combe it didn't at Snet just kept losing power. So I kept changing up a bit earlier and all was well. Need it sorting though, so same as you - any info very welcome. :)

thanks for that lofty! I was thinking it might be heat soak but I've never had it so didn't know what it felt like!

I've had limp mode a couple of times too so sounds like it could be the fix I need :)

Airtec FMIC and pipework is next on the list for me then

unusual on the road but it could be fuel temp which would (as I understand it) retard the timing

No worries, mine was shocking on the standard cooler, I even took the foglight out and the entire front wheel arch liner trying to get as much air through the standard intercooler and it was having none of it.

Frontmount solved all of that though

+1 heat soak even my pd100 used to run way to hot before fmic

rubbish the vrs has got a cooler for that

I've got the same spec as you ANDSOUTHAM. Think would need to upgrade to a fmic aswel myself eventually.

There's a garage doing a deal on facebook at the momment with free installation when you buy a fmic off them (think airtec or seatsport). Can't remember the name but they from Hull

How that happen?

Any pre warning signs?

Car reached the classic 120k mile mark. Did a full track day at snetterton fine and then it decided to go whilst overtaking a merc :(

No prewarning signs as such. It made a whining noise at around 20-30mph when pottering about town but i was told this happened on all of the fabias And it did it since i bought it on 100k..

I reckon the track day was the last straw really. Had a feel inside the turbo and its snapped the turbine wheel and all of the oil from my sump ended up in my intercooler

It will be a combo of heat soak and engine retardation as the engine will be protecting itself for getting too hot and risking premature firing.

yes and it can't always cope
