Green clock with arrow and left indicator light on dash when lights on

Featured Replies

I have an Octavia 1.4 tsi (2009) and recently when I put my lights on a green clock appears on the dashboard with an arrow pointing to it and the left indicator light shows.

Does anyone know what this could be please.

Thanks in advance

Green clock and arrow sounds like the Cruise Control symbol.

Left indicator light suggests...

Perhaps a fault with the left stalk with CC on it. I'd suggest a VCDS scan first and then maybe cleaning the contacts on or replacing the left stalk.

I had exactly this and more at the end of last week.

With handbrake on, ignition on and lights on I got the ASR and red coolant over temperature warning on dimly.

With handbrake off, ign on and lights on I got the LH turn light and ASR dimly lit.

With lights off and handbrake on I got the ASR and over high coolant lights still on.

This problem was after a week of strong wind and rain and a long time of no use.

I suspected it was water somewhere as the whole car was "steamed up" as soon as I closed the door and was reluctant to clear with a fibre cloth. [My car never normally has condensation as I use the climate control even in winter to keep the humidity low]

So, the fix:

First I left the bonnet open for the whole of a sunny day in case it was water around the ecu - no change

Secondly, on the dryer sunny day of Saturday, I left all the windows open with the car locked. When I checked in the evening everything was back to normal and has stayed that way.

Conclusion:

I believe the very high humidity, (perhaps I have water leak somewhere) resulted in water droplets forming across terminals in the electronics inside the car.

See photos for details. Note the camera aperture is set to make the dim light more visible.

Hi, I’m also experiencing the same issue with my Octavia VRS instrument cluster (image below of what it looks like parked) - I’m unable to send the cluster itself away for repair as need the car most days at the moment.. Would it be cost effective to buy a new (used) cluster and have it fitted (it’s an 09 reg)?

I’m going to attempt @pikpilot’s suggestion of airing it out also in the meantime, but could anyone suggest someone who reconditions these also?

Thank you! ☺️🐸A4C62999-C6F1-4AA0-A98B-1057CD4D7438.thumb.jpeg.ebc27969eb76affa4f68d1270a872024.jpeg

Since drying it out last year and also using the car more often, my problem has not returned.

You just need to find a dry sunny day.

I suspect the problem is not moisture in the cluster but across terminals/connectors on the control unit beneath the dash.
