Superbly windy

Featured Replies

Now we're starting to get a few autumn stroms rolling in, currently Barney is blowing around... Any lucky people already to have a Superb got any feedback on how their Superb feels at motorway speed in strong cross winds? Does it feel nice and stable. Guess choice of wheel size might have an effect.

I hope the answer is solid as a rock... my E60 was always solid and never affected regardless of crosswinds speed, (was 1800kg empty)  however a Insignia i drove a few weeks back felt pretty dangerous with any sort of cross wind.

Tyre pressure has a big effect to the stability, so play around there first off.

Wind, what wind ;)  Didn't notice it at all. We have had some pretty strong gusts today. Earlier on I was driving quietly along but could see the trees etc bending and then a break in the hedge. Braced hands on wheel expecting some impact--just carried on serenely. Doing about 60mph on good quality A road.

Least affected car I have driven for a while.

Funny you say that, I have an Insignia at the moment and while I wouldn't say it's dangerous it does wander. Likewise when I hit standing water on the near side, regardless of tyres I've tried it does kick back through the steering.

Now my other car, a rear engined Rapid is a bit of a game in windy weather, or even just passing a truck :)

Conti winter tyres now on. Solid as a rock...and I reckon quieter in wind and rain than my Mk 2.

Don't plough through any deep puddles in the Insignia, the air filter gets water logged and they go into limp home mode.

If it happens leave it ticking over for a few hours.

Maybe dangerous was too strong of a word... but in comparison after doing the best part of 80k in a car which didnt budge,  it does take you by surprised when it wanders.

Sounds like early reports means the Superb will be rock steady. Roll on January when I expect to take delivery and Victor Vauxhall goes bye-bye.

Had mine out on the A1 during Barney and can't say I noticed any real issues. I noted a few buffets but the car carried on without any reactions......unlike the poor motorcyclist in front of me who had to 'lean in' a couple of times.
