Have to say goodbye to my SEL :-(

Featured Replies

Let me first say, I have loved the drive and goodies of my SEL estate, it's been a very quiet car, with enough power and a superb gearbox.

However...

I am getting increasingly issues with my bad leg and hip getting in and out of the Octy to the extent of having to lift my leg in painfully, the drop into the seat and the climb out is just too much :-(

So, I have ordered an XC60 RDesign Lux D4 in Passion Red, should be with me beginning of January.

I will miss the Octy, yes I did try the scout, but just not high enough, it's a superb car and will recommend it to anyone looking for a good estate

Sorry it didn't work out for you, but I'm sure a second hand owner will thank you.

I synpathise with you, the high and wide sill you have to lift your feet over is a major problem if you suffer any mobility problems.

I know it is important, giving rigidity to the light and safe structure but I don't think my in-laws appreciate it at all.

Sorry to see you go. Hope you have no spec uncertainties with the Volvo like we have had with the Octavia.

Fair call. One big complaint I always had about the Elegance/SE-L seats is that they lack support in almost every way. They look good but are seriously lacking.

Lateral back and thigh support is poor, the seat base is quite shallow in length and has no tilt function and the lumbar supports are also not v effective.

I never really felt comfortable in it and I think the 18 months or so I spent in it have contributed to aggrivating my already not so great posture.

I have a GTD as a daily driver now and its like chalk and cheese....if anything the GTD seats are almost too supportive...when I first got the car the winged tops of the seats pinched my shoulder blades they are that profiled but now most cars I sit in (without similarly profiled seats) just feel plain uncomfortable.

Volvo have always had good seats as they prioritise safety and ergonomics over pretty much everything else....have never had a Volvo but am thinking I must try one at some stage.

The new Passat has ergoComfort (basically sports) seats on the SE and above and they are supposed to be superb....its another option for those suffering with such problems.

Now just thinking why oh why did I not just get a vRS.....oh thats right the wife wouldnt let me spend the extra...thats fine though as she now has the Elegance so it can knacker her back up instead!! :-)

That's interesting...I find the seat on my L&K to be execellent, especially at the lower back / lumbar region. I do quite a lot of long journeys in mine, and find the seat far superior to the one in the new Mazda 6 for instance. Are they different to the SE-L / Elegance (apart from the electrical adjustment)?

Not suggesting you are but problem for me is that I am simply not wide enough for the seat so get no support from the bolsters...not that they are particularly large anyway.

Also I dont have electric seats so have to make do with the frankly woeful and pointless manual lumbar supports. Id wager the four way electro-pneumatic ones are considerably better.
