experiences with 1.4TSI DSG

Featured Replies

I see there are a lot of vRS owners on this forum but are there also owners of the smaller 1.4 engine with the DSG7 transmission? :)

Are you happy with performance/consumption/reliability?

Kind regards,

Tomski

Very happy with my 1.4TSi with DSG. Had this combination also on my Octy 2.

Never caused any problems with performance and lively response when needed for overtaking etc.

Car now 2 years old and averaging around 50 mpg. Being retired I tend not to dash about and try to be gentle on the right pedal though.

Both cars have been reliable, although the Octy 2 was part exd before the end of warranty and I took out extended warranty on present car just in case of DSG issues.

Very happy with mine. 42ish mpg with heavy right foot and occasional towing of caravan or high speed on the autobahn

50.000km so far with no issues

Performance  (I have stopped using sport mode or I will have points on my licence.

Consumption with upto 4 in and mainly round town driving 7.4 l/100km.

No problems so far.

I have a new (2 months) 1.4 DSG and have just had the second jerky start.  As you probably know, when stopped in traffic, in gear, and with the auto stop-start disabled, when you take your foot off of the brake, the clutch starts engage and engages fully as you accelerate.  I've had two occasions when I've let go of the brake but the clutch has not engaged until the revs have increased, giving a jerky start as the clutch then engages quite quickly.

I am not a boy racer but an oldie who likes to drive smoothly.

Do you think this is something I should ask the dealer about?

The car is barely run-in with only 640 miles on the clock.

Thank you

Stewart

Ive had those jerky starts a few times. With my car I need to rev up 2k before it shoots of. And it seems like hill hold is also disabled when it does that.

Im guessing its software related, if I turn the ignition off and then on, its all ok again.

Had my dealer check for any faults, but they didnt find any.

Performance of mine is great

Consumption is fair for MY driving style

Reliability ???? well it ain't broke yet and I'vegiven it more reason to than most

The DSG box isn't as clever as it thinks it is, I'd much prefer a traditional auto..

Otherwise the 1.4 and the DSG are very good, fast, and very economical.

And I'm comparing with my previous Saab with a 2.3 turbo giving 220 bhp and 340 Nm. Only done 23k miles (37,000 km) in the Skoda so can't comment on reliability.

I'm 7000 miles into a 2015 1.4 TSi dsg SE hatch & pretty happy. Comfortable performance, easy 44-46mpg. DSG takes a bit of getting used to at junctions/traffic lights (there's no viscous coupling to hold it without the brake) and it interprets downhilll braking as an attempt to hold speed, selecting a gear which will do that and sending the revs up. Once you're used to those quirks it's an easy set up to like & normal shifts are very smooth.

I can understand why VAG has upped the power output from the 138bhp in mine to nearly 150bhp now - other Briskies will know, but I suspect it makes it just a wee but more relaxed.

But no complaints with mine - the 1.4 works easily with the dsg & I have no doibts that it was a more sensible choice for me than a diesel.

1.4 TSI DSG Combi Elegance MY15 140 hp.  7 months, 11 000 km and 6,42 l/100 km.

Not any problems, very satisfied. Had last summer enough speed and performance even on the German motorways, max speed driven was 170 km/h. Drive mode selector is mainly Normal, only steering is Sport. DSG7 suits for my driving style as the Start-Stop too. Like the ACC, Kessy and the Xenon lights are must here in the Northern darkness.

Getting towards twelve months of ownership and i have yet to have any negative feelings about my car. Coming from an older model v6 i am more than impressed with both the power and fuel usage. My only issue is the local dealership treating customers like ATM's, but that's to be expected from most car dealerships. Thank goodness my local mechanic can log book service without voiding the warranty!

I just asked the AA their view on thie jerky start (for Gromle's info, that's the British Automobile Association), and I happened to get one of their agents who also had the same problem with his own car with a DSG gearbox.  He took it to his dealer who "reprogrammed the car computer".  It cured the late clutch engagement, and throttle delay when starting off.

That aside, I do like the drivers display of time, date, speed, gear selected, oil and water temp etc.

So it is just a software problem. Good to know.

Will ask for a software update at the next service.
