MFD1 fit

Featured Replies

Hi guys, decided to go ahead with a mfd1 installation.

Easy job to do came with all the kit needed.

Bought the trim but for the top, is a tight fit and cannot seem to push it back far enough though. In a bit of a rush so will have to come back to it any ideas??

Have you removed the plastic part at the very back behind the radio?

its used to locate the cubby tray and the radio but isnt needed for the MFD1 instilation, if you remove it it makes its alot easier to push all the wires behind the dash and push the radio back far enough.

EDIT: I also removed the glovebox when i fitted mine to help pull all the wires back and feed them down the dash insted of squashing them all and possibly damaging some.

There is a big chunk of plastic you have to cut out from the back and even then it's a tight fit to get all the wires in.

Ahh ok I'll get a knife in there and try to remove all the plastic I can. Also where's the best place to put the gps unit???

Thanks

A hacksaw blade or similar might be better, its quite tough in places!

i put the GPS unit at the end of the dash on the passenger side, behind the pop out panel at the end of the dash.

Went in for round two today and am very pleased with the outcome!

Firstly took your advice and took away the plastic at the rear of the dash where the nav sits. Junior hack saw made this a doddle. Remove glovebox to figure a way to mount the gps too

Next I routed the cable and mounted it on the metal bracket on the very left, cable tied in place

used a guide on setting up the nav and my wheel circumference was 500mm out haha should be 1800mm and it was 2333 so glad I checked this. I went for a drive for half hour and considering it's an old system and my standards were low in pleasantly surprised. It's obviously not as good as today's sat navs but in my view this beats on stuck on the windscreen. Unit looks professional and really smartens up the interior. Very pleased!

Thanks for the replies that made this job a lot easier

Good work :)

Your picture of the GPS in place is exactly the same as mine, I thought you stole it :D
