New chain and tensioner fitted

Featured Replies

Hi recently had a a new chain and tensioner fitted to my 12 plate. Anyway not had the car long so had the chain fitted under skoda approved warranty thank god. it's very nice to drive feels solid however still sounds like a bag of spanners on a cold start up. Only lasts for about 5 seconds. Is this normal starting to think this engine is lemon. Which is a shame its quiet when running.

It is normal for a slight rattle for a couple of seconds as the chain tensioner uses oil pressure. There are other things that can rattle on startup as well such as hydraulic tappets, charcoal cannister,  and the direct injection can be noisy for a while  - all normal

On the Fabia forum someone was complaining about a chain rattle on startup - it was the later engine with the belt!

The oil filter is fitted with a non return valve that can be damaged if overtightened which would cause a delay in bringing up oil pressure after starting for the first time after being stood for a long while as all the oil would have drained back to the sump

See how it goes I guess does run better than before. Just tappetty on a cold start up.

Sit back and enjoy your car

Don't forget the good bits:-

) You still should have pretty good economy with 50 mpg possible if you take it easy on a run (If you rag it mpg really drops though) - My worst tank-tank has been 44mpg, best 53mpg

) Great refinement - near silence at tickover and only 2000rpm at 60mph

   ) Pulls well from 1500to 6000rpm

   ) Water cooled turbo

) Primary water pump run by an auxiliary belt (there is a secondary electric water pump)

   ) Single Mass Flywheel

) External slave cylinder - not the concentric

   ) No DPF

I know that's why I bought it in the first place.

Ticks a lot of boxes. It's the se plus model I have with sat nav etc .

Just needs cruise control and a armrest then its perfect for me.

Going to get cruise control fitted after Christmas at a place called awesome gti. 150 fully fitted.

As for the armrest need to wait until one comes up on eBay.
