Alignment - daft question.

Featured Replies

Does it matter whether you get the alignment done before getting new tyres fitted or best to wait until the new shoes are on?

Wait for your new shoes. :)

Are you having an Alignment Check and any adjustment required doing because the tyres being replaced show possible Mis-Alignment.?

Who is doing it, and how much are they charging, and do you trust them to know what they are doing adjusting your alignment.?

Then fill your boots if you do trust them.

I've got uneven wear (inner) on the current tyres - down to 2mm on inner edges, so need new tyres - was just going to order tyres from Black Circles and get them fitted at a Tesco 'Pit Stop' (basically because they open late Wednesdays and Thursdays) - however, the Pit Stop doesn't do alignment - for the alignment I was just going to take the car to my local National Tyres.

Brian, noooo

Price Henrys checking the Alignment and adjusting, or better still a Specialist in your area,

Unless someone can Big Up the National Tyres you are going to that is.

Sorry, i do not know anyone in your area,

maybe ask VrsGeo

Henry's want 50 quid!

I'd rather go to a specialist but the problem I have for the next few weeks is the only time I'll have free will be evenings and Sundays (which severely limits my options).

Performance Tyres are good (and open Sundays) but they're hit and miss with regard to the attitude of some of the chaps.

£50 for a Proper Alignment Check and adjustment is OK,

But then no idea if you are getting that,

Best PM VrsGeo and ask where and who,

just get the Tyres on first and the correct pressures, then do not put off too long.

Cheers Geo, but Dundonald is a bit out the way for me (I'm in Glasgow).

I'm at the Pit Stop in Silverburn - wheels (with new boots) are going back on as I type. Good location - can have a wander round the shops while the tyres are getting fitted.

No prob Brian. I did think it was a bit out ur way! But the boys r gd with the hunterwheel alinement. Really gd at setting cars up properly

Not ruling out going there - I might have Monday morning free and it's only half an hour's drive down the A77 - thanks for your help.

Glad to help

I use these when I swap over from Cold Weather tyres;

Mana the Infiniti dealership at Braehead. Unlike National Tyres, this is proper 4 wheel alignment. (I was only told after NT started working on my car, they can only do the front wheels). They will drop you off at Braehead, or you can do what I do and use the WiFi and absolutely HAMMER the coffee machine. They will, if you are so inclined, wash and clean your vehicle. Both Parks and Henry's quoted nearly £100 and I was told by at least one of them they don't do it onsite. This was before both had a major revamp, so things might have changed.

I just stuck it into Henry's this morning - mainly for convenience (within walking distance of my work), but also they should know how to set the car up properly - now waiting on the obligatory 'upsell' to tell me I need new discs and pads...

No upsell but they can't get the track rod nut off (roughly speaking - got lost after a certain point...) and this will be an hour's labour (going to use heat).

It's amazing how many garages (not just Henry's) go straight from a water dispersant to a gas torch without trying a proper dismantling lubricant.

Appreciate it's probably all in my head but the car seems to drive better after Henry's did the alignment (to the original settings - I suppose brand new tyres all round also help).

Re brakes and discs - I've only done 600 miles since the service and the rears have been downgraded from 'immediate attention' to advisory - the fronts weren't mentioned at all.
