Rear tyre 'stepping' vRS Tdi estate

Featured Replies

Had my vRS TDi Estate serviced last week at 20k miles and complained of a noise not unlike a worn wheel bearing, an humming / throbbing which certainly didn't used to be there.

The response when I picked it up is that the noise is being generated by uneaven 'stepping' of the tread at the rear probably caused by the vRS geometry. The rear tyres are still original and have about 4mm left.

Anyone else had this issue or is it a case of dealer finding the fault but not the cause of the uneven wear?

Cheers....I searched stepping but strangely haven't ever heard it referred to as 'sawtooth' so didn't look for it.....at least I'm not alone!

Poor 4 wheel allignment the cause.

Likely the only way to cure it will be getting 4 new tyres and 4 wheel allignment done somewhere they know what they are doing with a Hunter allignment rig.

As above - getting the car set up properly makes a world of difference.

What make of tyres are you running?
