Handing my L&K back

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I was one of the 1st people to get my hands on the new superb.

My model is a L&K Hatch 150ps 2.0lt Diesel DSG in silver with beige leather. Extras include Sunroof, Blinds and Paddle shift.

Great looking car, but it's been a nightmare. It's been into 2 sepetate dealers both for engine noise problems. First problem was brake pipers were touching the heat shield causing a lot of engine rattle. Derby Skoda fixed it. Then it went into Rainworth where I brought the car from. They had it for 3 days and concluded that the aircon pipes were touching each other hence the engine rattle. Now I have another noise coming from what i think is the gear box. When idle it grumbles and grones. Also going from second to first it grones. Many people have commented on the noise and one was extreme as saying it sounds like a bag of nails.

I've launched a complaint with Skoda UK who have offered me £150 back. Cheeky B....stards!

Having had the car for 7 weeks and covered 6k miles it's not been enjoyable due to the engine noise problems. I actually dread coming to a stop or traffic it's that bad. I took some legal action and have been advised to give the car back. I have contacted the dealer principle and VW finance.

I'm gutted because i ordered in good faith and ordered in August. At the end of the day the engine is the heart of the car and if that's had 2 problems already then I'm sorry but this isn't for me.

I'm looking at a 5 series or E class now.

Anyone else had problems?

Sorry to hear this.

Surely though, 2 engine rattles caused by possible heat shields or pipes vibrating due to too close are simple fixes and should of been picked up on the PDI, its not extacley major engine issues is it ?

Regarding the gearbox, has a master tech inspected it ?

No my gearbox has been smooth as silk. No mechanical noise. I have had a couple of rattles. One from the right hand side of the dash fixed with a 10p gromit and bit of Velcro.

Intermittent vibration sometimes in 2nd gear at certain revs that sounds like it may be a heat shield. Not worried I'll sort it when I can be bothered.

Other is an occasional vibration from the driver seatbelt near my right ear. Again will be looked at when. Can be bothered.

To be honest when I went to pick up the car and the salesman sat in the car with me, we both noticed the engine noise but I was told it might just go away.

They are simple fixes but on the second occasion they had to contact the factory for advice hence 3 days in the garage. Like I said before I could understand if it was a second hand car but it's brandnew and factory built. Surely someone should have picked this up.

My gear box isn't as smooth and you can hear and feel every gear change. A much different experience to the one I test drove which was as smooth as silk.

Clearly something wrong with mine. I accept its a new model and there will be problems but they shouldn't be straight away.

Let's see what happens

Keep us posted Tony. Try a back to back drive at the dealer so you can do a proper comparison of noise.

I had a 6 month old Citroen C5 in 2003 that had a similar problem, sounded like a bag of nails up to 10mph and it was the top of the range petrol V6, Citroen refused to fix it and I have never bought a Citroen since, Some companies can be very short sighted.

Thankfully the law has changed in consumer protection and is much better now.  Good article linked here:

but the main points are:

* You can reject a faulty car within 30 days of delivery

* If a fault occurs after 30 days but within six months, the dealer has one chance to fix it
* If that first attempt fails, you can ask for a full refund
* If you find a fault after six months, it's up to you to prove it was present on delivery

It's a real shame this has happened but I guess it always will on some cars - the old 'Friday afternoon' syndrome.  I had a 6 month old Vectra back in 2001 and had a very similar experience to Phil - after 20 odd visits to the garage I got them to replace the car and the second was just as bad.  Never had another Vauxhall again and likely never will.
