cold start issue

Featured Replies

so octavia vrs   in these cold mornings turn the key sounds sluggish and also the doors lock before it starts, never takes long to start but does sound like it struggles, also when i use the windows lights go very dim.  checked the battery was at 50% so charged her up which didnt take long to reach full, so i was thinking either battery is knackerd and reading false full, or it did need a charge and maybe i have starter motor issue.

when warm car seems to start ok, any ideas chaps and chapesses.?

Colder weather will start finishing off a failing battery, get it checked to see if it's holding charge before you panic too much. Cold start in morning will be the worse time for it.

After some research also these Varta batteries are the same as 'Bosch silver' from eurocarparts (I think Varta make them and Bosch rebrand).  A saving of £30 and free delivery also

Or Exide, but I would choose Varta

Sounds that you need a new battery. My Vauxhall has just needed a new battery after failing to start on the first two properly damp and cold days of this month. It's a diesel so needs more grunt than a petrol engine so although my lights remained bright, my doors locked and unlocked just as you described.

All sorted now but very annoying as car is being traded for a new Superb in January and battery cost me £119.
