Thinking of buying new Fabia but concerned about startup rattle

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As the title states im thinking of buying a new fabia 1.2 tsi. I have driven two different models (90 and 110ps with dsg). One was a test car at a local dealer while the other was a brand new my friend bought.

I generally like the car but i noticed (on both cars) a distinct rattle-like sound a few seconds after starting the engine. I have read a countless number of reviews and i am quite surprised none have mentioned this sound. I know about the previous timing chain problems but the new ones are supposed to use belts right? Anyway i was wondering if anyone has noticed this sound and/or know what it might be?

Pretty normal...mixture of tappet noise and possibly injector noise also when cold.

Different but my v new Golf GTD sounds quite tappety of a morning for the first few miles until it warms through....only does it if its sat all night and its been cold. My last one did it too.

Totally normal. My 2 year old Octavia does it as well. Several threads about it in Octavia III section...

Hey guys,

Thanks for your answers. Glad to know it's normal - guess I'm just picky when it comes to brand new cars :-)

I was told its the High pressure injection the noise comes from that big silver nut on top of the engine with the injection pipes. More noticeable when cold

My roomie does it from cold. More like a knock. Must be the high pressure direct injection pump
