Hi all, me again. Long time no type :)

Yep, traded my scrap Berlingo, with clutch baring issues and broken rear torsion bar, along with other faults, for a 06 Skoda Octavia Classic 1.9TDi hatch - with fewer issues. All for £400 :)

It's got high milage (176000) and a few electrical faults and mechanical noises, but drives OK. The hatch wouldn't unlock as the mechanisum and micro switch had come unplaced. A cable tie and some epoxy fixed the switch and smiply reatching the short bar connector fixed the boot problem. Rear wiper and heated window don't function, fuse checked and is over rated at 25 amps, me thinks! Central locking works but not as it should. Near side rear dosen't lock off the fob properly, electrics are there though. Front electric windows also don't function as intened but think it's a switch issue. Door open lights also don't function and just stay on when slide switch in left position. Door open warning in dash functions as should. This leads me to the drivers door. This dosn't close quite as it should. Off square and low to the sill. A good bang close is a tempory "solution". There's other little electrical faults but I think it to do with the after market radio and how it was fitted. So I'll attend those in tme.

The mechanical noises and drive train / engine are my first priority. Tyre tread was OK but I've treated the car to some Michein X Climate up front (£136 with a £10 fuel voucher :D coming my way in the not too distant future) as winter is on it's way. Whilst these were fitted I was alerted to brake wear front and rear, also damage to sills. Sill damage looks like trolly jack lift dents. The brakes do need attention so bought discs and pads front and rear for under £60. A quote for £250 fitted just didn't settle with my wallet. Front discs and pads fitted this morning without any drama. No special tools. Wheel stud wrench, Allen key for calliper, cross head for disk and a G Clamp to move the piston back in. Rain stopped play for the rear, so a job for tomorrow. Not sure if I need a wind in tool for the rear piston, but got one just in case. FleBay would have been a lot cheaper than my local motor mart but needs must if there is a need at all.

Anyway, overall, I'm pleasd with this Skoda knacker more so than the Citroen knacker I had. If things go well with the car upuntil next MOT, mid 2016, I'll probably keep it for a good while. Venturing here for some insight and tips as I did with the Fabia I had.

That's it for now as hunger has crept up on me.

Sorry for any spelling mistake :D

Welcome back - great post!

Thanks for the welcome Sarge.

Managed to change rear discs and pads today. Not as plain sailing as front but done.

Could have left them for another 100K :D

Octavia II 2006 Rear Brake

May need to replace calipers/carriers/car! :-P. Piston went back OK, just didn't slide too well and handbrake seems to activate only on one side which is the same side that smokes when driving. Luckerly, unlike the Scottish Highlands, it's flat round here :D

Still, each problem is a lesson and each lesson is knowlage gained.

I think that's a MkI you have there, albeit a very late one?

The shape of the sill looks more like a MkI than a MkII.

The shape of the holes in the steel wheel also suggests MkI too?

The MkII was introduced in 2004 but the MkI was kept on sale for several years after to cater for the die hard taxi driver fraternity.

Welcome back to the Skoda fold though

You have a keen eye silver1011 and thanks for the welcome. That photo top is indeed mine, a MK1 (1U2).

Thanks for pointing me to the right section :)
