Amundsen satnav SD card

Featured Replies

Hello to all,

I just bought Skoda Octavia III 2013 1.6TDI, and it is perfect, didn't know how much they did in past few years. But I have a problem maybe someone had the same one. My Skoda was imported from France (I live in Slovenia btw), and at car dealer I didn't test navigation because there was no need for it. Now I tried to engage navigation and when I pressed NAV button, there was an error, something like: Please insert media ..... I read a lot of stuff on the internet about Amudsen, not Amudsen+, and I saw, that you need Skoda navigation SD card if you want to use navigation.

So my questions are:

- Is it possible to use navgation without original SD card ? (I called Skoda dealer and they said that SD card costs aprox 230 eur)

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Jan

You need the original skoda card.

As far as I know no one has managed to use a normal sd card.

Yeah, I thought it would be something like that. I tried to download new maps from Skoda update portal and extract them to new SD card, but it didn't work though :)

The SD card on which the original maps are supplied has information in its firmware that identifies it as an original card. The Amundsen unit will not recognise any card which does not have this information.

Yes sadly the cards are proprietary and in the event it goes missing/breaks its a dealer accessory at mucho $. Dealers might replace an existing one under warranty if it just fails but rather an unknown.

They are just trying to prevent mapping piracy which I guess is fair enough.

The biggest problem was, that the card was not included when I bought Octavia. I didn't even know that you need SD card to run navigation, shame on me :$.

So I don't have any other chance, but to buy new original Skoda SD card.

Afraid not my friend. You could try it on with the supplying dealer saying that theyve provided you a car with non functional nav.....even if they wont swallow the whole cost they might be good enough to contribute towards the cost as goodwill?

When you get the card, slot it in slot 1. Switch it to nav mode, the unit will read the data and it should spring to life. The SD card needs to remain in the slot all the time in order to work....rather why there exists a 2nd slot for music etc.

I would go to where ever you bought the car and demand a card. Unless it was specidied in the add/papers that the card was missing I would call it a fault.

Especially if the car was advertised with navigation.

I dont know how the consumer rights are where you live, but here it would be no question to make complaint.

I got Škoda original SD card with Map 2014/15 i download 2017/18 from Škoda Update but my original Škoda SD does not have enough space?? What can i do?

Sd capacity is 7,46GB but newer maps are around 7,87 and cannot upload becouse of low space.

What can i do?

If you look at the contents of the files you downloaded, there's separate folders for each country's map data.
I just deleted a few that I thought I was never going to visit and copied the rest of the files on which worked just fine.

I think Slovenia was one of the countries I got rid of. Sorry!

Save the dat on the SD card onto another computer. Then reformat the SD card to FAT32 making sure you select a cluster size of 4KB.

Then copy the new map data onto the SD card. It should now fit.

The problem is that the map data contains many small files of only a few hundred bytes but when copied to the SD card they occupy the cluster size which defaults to 8KB or even 32KB making them unable to all fit on the card. Reducing the cluster size by reformatting reduces the wasted space and allows all the files to fit.

This has been mentioned several times here over the past few months.

Funny thing that the European map "ECE A1 2019/2020 - only for 32GB SD". So the name suggests that no smaller SD card should be used than 32GB. My Octavia came with 16GB card. The Skoda shop only seems to sell 16GB cards. And no other than Skoda original card can be used :) Well I'm not really gonna drive around Europe anyways. Maybe that cluster size change would do it, but I think I'll wait until I really need all the maps.

I've just downloaded the big map onto my 16Gb card and it does just fit, download files, extract, copy old files of card to PC (just in case) delete old map files off card, copy new map files to card.
