Coolant level light

Featured Replies

Have had Octavias since 2005 and never had the coolant level light come on and the other day it did. Checked the expansion tank and it was nigh empty?, where had it all gone .No leaks apparent so topped it up and after few miles with no light on all was well. Was it a air lock ? or what

I had an intermittent leak from the radiator that was very hard to spot.

Same until it practically burst and then had to be replaced ASAP.

Mine came on in my Scout a couple of years ago. Got the correct fluids and topped it up and then booked it in for a leak / pressure test. All was OK - no problems picked up. Dealer says that coolant can be used and the level can drop over a long period of time - despite lots of advice that says it's a sealed system and shouldn't need topping up.

Anyway, it's two and a half years on now and the level has never dropped. Don't know the correct answer - could be what the dealer says or you could pay for peace of mind and get it leak tested?

Hi,

My coolant warning light comes on sometimes at first starting. Next time you start, no light. Car is parked at a slight downhill angle, I have checked the coolant level and the two level detecting probes are well covered.

Going to check when car is level, also going drain some coolant and top-up with new antifreeze and I will clean the probes (an OLD toothbrush should do).

Possible that the initial resistance between the probes is just high enough to be over the warning level limit.

Furring of the contacts has been reported as an issue on here before, should be a quick check before spending any money.
