Coolant sensor location ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys , mk1 Octavia 1.9tdi ,any one know we're the coolant sensor is location please. I'm assuming near the air filter ?

Thanks

As you look under the bonnet it's on the right hand side, usually green. It's easier if you take off the engine cover.

Top reply. Thank so much.

The older ones are grey. When you take it out make sure you get the old O ring out.

Sensor replaced ,hardest bit was getting the retaining clip back in. Bit of a fiddle.

Car still has warm starting issues , maybe time for a professional to take a look :(

A poor battery can affect warm starting. The ecu doesn't inject fuel unless the engine is turning over at 250rpm or more when warm. Alternatively it could be the timing on the injection pump, both can be checked with VCDS.

Thanks , I didn't suspect the battery as it starts cold first time every time.

May buy some injector cleaner and replace the fuel filter. Got to be worth a shot.

When cold it chucks fuel in straightaway. So a bad battery can mean ok for a cold start but problems when hot.

Now you got me thinking. Don't you just hate your car sometimes.

Get it plugged into vcds and check the pump timing and for any other fault codes.

I am going to buy a code reading device. Any recommendations as to which one to buy ? Simpler the better ,

Code reader won't be any good other than to bring up generic codes. It won't be able to look at pump timing at all. You need someone with vcds. There is a section on here with a map of all members that have vcds, maybe one close to you?

A cheap code reader will not be able to check the timing. Look in the vcds forum and see if there is anyone near you with VCDS who could scan the car.

I bought it online but no i don't think it's genuine skoda.

Although it was green and the old one was black.

Get a genuine one then go from there.

Vcds scan all booked in for tomorrow. My headache is coming to an end ( hopefully ).

Just had the car scanned. apparently the cam sensor has an intermittent fault.

Any one know if this is a diy or garage job ? Also location.

Cheers guys.

I could be wrong, but I didnt think that the non PD engines had a Camshaft position sensor? They do however have an engine speed sensor, located on the front of the cylinder block, adjacent to where the gearbox mounts too the block.

Hope that helps?

Bought a cam sensor from europarts for £17.40.

Followed the 5 min video on YouTube and the car is finally fixed.

I will say that the job looks tricky but it's easier then it first appears.
