ASR Traction control

Featured Replies

Don't you guys read the manuals

Judging by the number of oil and cool box threads I'd say no

I can verify kilpijoki's statement - the finnish manual does tell you to turn off ASR in when it's really slippery. Sometimes even that doesn't cut the cheese.. at my work the carpark is rather steep hill. You have to park your car sideways in the middle of the hill. Naturally finnish winter and all (-20C atm) it'll be icy and mean _REALLY_ icy most of the winter. Couple of weeks ago it had been kinda cold and the hill was icy, then it turned to +3C so it was wet ice :( My winter tyres are spikeless so I was pretty much screwed.. ASR or not it would not climb the hill, until I turned the car around and reversed up the hill. It went up like nobody's business.

So as a little hint, which most of you guys propably already knew, if you feel stuck on slipper slope driving forwards - should it be possible, turn around and reverse. Fwd cars you can almost backup to the top of a tree..

Just my 2c,

Juha

^ that is how it's told to do in manual also (at least in finnish version). Don't you guys read the manuals

Sorry. They are all in Finnish!!!

Sorry. They are all in Finnish!!!

 Then it's time to learn some finnish :D

Then it's time to learn some finnish

OK. I'll start ........."The End" How's that !!

I think thats the ASR on my Fabia 1.4 16v Works Very fine in some conditions like car parks, wet, and sandy roads.. but when pullin away in normal conditions i prefere to turn it off though it kills all the power to prevent wheel spin..

Wow a fast learner. Kohtahan voidaan puhua kaikki suomea, kun englesmannitkin oppivat nopeasti -figure that out ;)

finnish pronounciation

Decision made.ASR will be turned off in my Octavia.ESP will be left on in SWMBO's Fabia

Spotted this interesting mod (bottom of page on link below...) - lets you turn off the ASR from starting the car without pushing the dash button

Hi to All

My experience of ASR in the Fabia vRS is that it lets you get away with a bit of wheelspin, then cuts the power if you dont respond by reducing the throttle. If you are clumsy, hooligan it and get it to the stage where it cuts power, sure you will be losing pace, but then you will be with it off as well, because you are spinning the power away.

I find that on a greasy B road I am able to keep the ASR light flashing almost every corner exit and well into third without it cutting power, but with the minimum of wheelspin and subsequent loss of traction. To me, this proves the system to be a well considered balancing act of safety vs performance vs fun. It lets you push up to and some way beyond optimal acceleration out of corners. Either you guys have ASR that works differently to mine or you are just being too heavy footed. Remember, wheelspin does not help propel you forward. Try a little finesse and you may find you go faster than with it off.

That's a really extreme solution  - just ask Skoda to turn it off - they'll do it free and you don't have to potentially damage your car doing it.
