Help - Outlook and Messenger!

Featured Replies

Been having probs with both Outlook and MSN Messenger lately... and I can't work out what's up!

All that happens on either of them is that when I go to log in, it just times out.....

Any ideas anyone? I can still get on the internet ok (obviously ;) ) and get into my mail etc that way... but tbh it's driving me mad not being able to get onto messenger or to get into my mail via Outlook!

Help!

Hmmm - only thing I can think of is something's changed in the account details in Outlook. Is it the same email addy for Outlook and MSN? I use two different ones. If its the same one, try resetting the password to the account?

Obviously your net connection isn't the issue so its to do with the mail account I think. I think there's a "accounts" option under tools in outlook - Mine is a freeserve mail account for example.

Web mail could be holding the accont open and stopping your outlook connecting to the account.

well I've ferreted around and got messenger working (hurrah!) by removing it from the apps list on my firewall and then launching it again so it sets 'new' permissions.... but the outlook thing is strange.... I use different accounts on both... and I make sure I've logged out of webmail before I go and try outlook again....

looks like I's stuck with webmail for a while!

Web mail sometimes keeps a lock on the account for a while - Tiscali is really bad for this.

Good thing with webmail is I delete all the spam at work, and it just downloads the stuff I want to Outlook at home. :)

Does Outlook give any error messages during the send.receive process? Often some window pops up with an ! in a yellow triangle.

If you use Thunderbird it does it for you.

Thunderbird is les chiens conneries

Check you internet explorer proxy/connection settings.. as both outlook and messenger use this by default.

edit: also check your isp/email provider as alot are now requring SSL security to access email (btinternet does)
