Variable Servicing

Featured Replies

First time Skoda owner. Car has only done 250 miles but doesn't seem to display when the next service is due, see attached photo. Is this normal, do I just need to drive more miles for it to kick in or has it not been setup correctly.post-56952-0-75963300-1449431938_thumb.jpg

Not checked mine on the maxidot, but if you look on the MIB2 it shows the mileage and date (mine is also on variable)

Forgot to say my mileage is the same as yours.

On the Columb us under service it just shows the Vin number

On my MkII which had variable servicing too it does not tell you when it is due as it depends upon how the vehicle is driven and I was told first service is anything between 12k and 20k.  Hope this helps?

I have a MK2 FL on variable and it does tell you when a service is due, it counts down from about 18,000 miles.

As soon as it's been serviced until you've done a few miles it shows nothing as in Simon-R's photo above, then the count down begins.

Mine seems to have woken up, only showing oil service date at the moment.

Can the variable service interval cope equally well with low and high mileage use? I am a little confused as to why the brochure suggests setting the car to fixed if you do less than 10k per year...surely the computer knows the mileage and has time/date information, so can tell if you are doing low annual mileage?

My problem is that I currently do low (4-5k) annual mileage, but am expecting that to increase with the new car as it will be used as our main family car, so I'm struggling to decide what to have the car set to.

My thoughts so far are to let the dealer set it to variable, but if my mileage continues to be below 10k per year I would still have the car serviced every 10k/12 months as per the fixed regime.

Always best to change oil annually on low mileage cars and higher mileage use cars like mine will need two services a year on fixed as against only one on variable. I still had the oil changed at 1,500 miles though.

I agree, but I would have thought that the variable service indicator could have taken care of that, since it is in the Columbus unit and knows how many miles you have done as well as the date?

Seems odd to have to choose prior to registration.

I think I'll have my car set to variable, but have it serviced annually if I continue to do low mileage. Then I have complete flexibility if my mileage increases in future, as I suspect it might.
