Fabia VRS-anybody else had this?

Featured Replies

I posted a few weeks ago about a flying stone chipping that cracked my passenger side front fog light.

Guess what, the driver's side fog light has now SHATTERED! This time though i'm not going to blame the stone chippings because i haven't driven over any of them recently.

While the passenger side cracks were bad, the driver's side one is much worse. On inspection the cracks are loose and it feels like it lens cover will implode soon.

When i originally posted someone thought that cracked fog lights may be a design fault, just wondered if anybody else has one?

Crack in my fog light, as theres no water getting in, I am waiting till it fully goes until I replace it, especially at the price they are

My passenger side fog is cracked too - but it is still solid, so won't replace it yet.

When my cash starts flowing in more than it flows out, I'll probably change it.

It should be covered under warranty. My Renault Megane fog light cracked and they replaced it under warranty

Both mine are cracked:mad: How much are they?

mmmm, could be a design fault then, both have mine have cracked within a month of each other! If i costs too much to repair i will just buy two torches and strap them to the front!

Or just remove them and channel cold air onto the intercooler :D

Chris

yep my drivers side one went, IIRC is cost around

Though if you do a search in the fabia forum your find a few posted about it, I believe that they can be found on ebay for about for half the price

Think vRStu might also be able to get them cheaper than rrp too.... :D

Chris

yep my drivers side one went' date=' IIRC is cost around £49ish. It's a bumper off job to replace it.

Is there something you can't reach without taking it off then, or is it just the dealer trying it on? You can get at the bulb without taking the bumper off AFAIK (the plastic surrounding the lamp just pulls off...)

Neither of mine have gone (so far - fingers crossed!) but whatever car my mum has had, she always cracks the foglights within a few weeks. She thinks it's from following tractors and lorries and stuff. Must admit, I've had some pretty big things come at me off the back of other vehicles in the past (a stone about the size of a tennis ball once, which was fun  ), so I can imagine that fog lamps are pretty vulnerable however they're designed, seeing how low down they are...

ap0gee,

I thought that at first so I tired to do it with the bumper on. I just could not get my hand + tool in the little space that there is. To be fair taking the bumper off is easy once you know how.

if you can take the front lens off to get to the blub, then I guess if you wanted you could just swap over the lens, my fog light lens had smashed too bits with only a few bits of glass in, so it was exposed to the elements for about 6 months. My choice was to replace the whole unit.

HTH

Chris,

I do believe you are right ;)

Both of my fog lights are OK, but from reading the various posts in Briskoda I also wonder whether the cracking is due to a design fault. I've never used mine in the 13,000 miles I've now done, maybe that is why they remain undamaged. The glass lens looks really thick from the outside, could it be that the temperature difference between the inside of the lens (with the lights on), and the cold of the outside, made colder by wind chill, is causing the lens to crack? For those with a cracked lens, can you see a small stone chip from where the crack radiates, or is it just a clean crack right across the lens? The headlamps appear to be made of plastic which will be more durable than the glass of the fog lamps, I wonder why they never made the fog lamp lenses of the same material. A few years ago VW ran a series of TV adverts for the Passat, the ad concentrated on the head light lenses being made of the same material as bullet proof glass, can anyone remember that? So, a resilient material is obviously available, but they choose not to use it.

on mine there was no glass left at all (apart from around the edges), if I can find the old one I'll post a picture

Pretty much the same as mine i'm afraid, it's covered over with sellotape now for a botch-up repair job!
