Car alarm sounding at irregular intervals

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My Octy (2011) car alarm is sounding at irregular times, last night it was 03:30 (yawn).

This happens during the day as well with no one near the car, no strong winds or anything striking the car and set the alarm off.

Would an alarm fault show up on diagnostic checking?

Not sure if it's connected to central locking system or not but horn sounds and lights flash.

Any ideas?

Yes a fault should show up.

Have you tried disabling the internal sensors?

Not sure how to go about disabling the sensors. What would this tell me?

Press the button at the bottom of the drivers side B pillar then lock the car. If the problem is with the internal sensors the alarm shouldn't go off.

Thanks for this. I will give it a go in daylight, that is if the alarm doesn't go off in the middle of the night again !

A alarm fault can also be indicated by the LED on the drivers door. It should flash (7 times I think) and then go into blinking mode. But if a fault is found in the system it flashes and then stay lit for about a minute.

Had the light staying on myself recently and the internal ultrasonics needed a clean. Removed the module from in from of the mirror, clean and re-fitted and now all good.

are you sure your battery isn't on its way out?.. My Saab 93 alarm used to go off as the battery needed replacing..

Had exactly the same problem with the scout a couple of months ago. Turned out to be a broken wire. Took the garage a full day to find.

evening

if you have access to vcds you can see the last 4 activations. i had the same problems lately and turned out to be the boot lock. when replaced problem sorted! i also lowered the sensitivity of the internal alarms.

hope it helps

I had this. Just removed the fuse for interior alarm sensors and has been fine ever since. Forget fuse number, sorry, but is listed in the manual.

Mines doing the same. If its on the estate model take the spare wheel out - if theres screen wash theres a good chance its affecting the micro switch for the boot lid.

Hi, our 2009 estate sometimes sounds the alarm when the air is damp.
